The EHS (Environmental Health & Safety) Manager is responsible for leading the site’s environmental, health, safety, maintenance, and facilities operations to ensure regulatory compliance, operational reliability, and a safe, efficient workplace. This role provides both strategic and hands-on leadership for EHS programs, facility and equipment maintenance, capital planning, and continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing and distribution operations.
The position serves as the site subject matter expert for EHS compliance and risk reduction, while also overseeing maintenance systems, facility services, fire protection readiness, security support, and infrastructure performance. As a member of the leadership team, this individual partners cross-functionally to drive a culture of safety, accountability, business continuity, and operational excellence.
What you will do:
- Lead and improve site EHS and maintenance performance by promoting an incident-free workplace and safe work behaviors.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, as well as corporate policies and applicable ISO standards.
- Develop, implement, and sustain EHS management systems, compliance calendars, procedures, and training programs.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; identify root causes; and implement corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
- Manage regulatory reporting requirements, inspections, audits, waste handling activities, and environmental records, including waste manifests and related documentation.
- Oversee hazardous waste, storm water, fire safety, and other compliance-related programs to maintain regulatory readiness and best practices.
- Evaluate processes, equipment, and work areas to identify hazards, recommend solutions, and reduce operational risk.
- Track and trend EHS key performance indicators, incidents, and compliance activities using internal tools and reporting systems.
- Partner with leaders and employees to drive engagement, safety committees, Gemba walks, ergonomic improvements, risk assessments, and employee awareness initiatives.
- Manage maintenance staff and outside contractors responsible for equipment, facilities, grounds, and building systems.
- Oversee maintenance planning, preventive maintenance schedules, equipment repairs, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and long-term asset reliability.
- Support installation, inspection, testing, and upkeep of manufacturing equipment, facility systems, fire protection systems, security systems, and related infrastructure.
- Resolve facilities-related issues and support site improvement, business continuity, and capital expenditure initiatives.
- Manage EHS and maintenance budgets, identify cost-effective solutions, and provide leadership updates on financial and project performance.
- Provide leadership support for sustainability initiatives, including energy, waste, and water reduction efforts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business needs, site operations, emergency response, and continuous improvement activities.
- Provide timely communication to employees and leadership on EHS, facilities, maintenance, and risk management topics.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of site operations and business objectives.
What you will bring:
- Working knowledge of OSHA and other applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Experience leading EHS and maintenance functions in a manufacturing and/or distribution environment.
- Demonstrated ability to guide, coach, and develop teams while driving accountability and results.
- Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, risk assessments, and corrective action follow-up.
- Knowledge of maintenance systems, preventive maintenance, facility operations, fire/life safety systems, and equipment reliability practices.
- Experience managing budgets, contractors, capital projects, and cost improvement initiatives.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence, motivate, and build trust across all levels of the organization.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and standard business systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Occupational Health and Safety, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required; additional education, certifications, or equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 5+ years of relevant EHS and maintenance experience required; broader facilities leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Flexibility to support off-hours, weekends, or emergency situations as business needs require.
- Experience implementing and/or maintaining OSHA process safety management (PSM) system elements.
