About this role

## Quin | About the Company
Quin is a safety-technology company. Our technology ships inside products from leading global brands across motorcycling, cycling, sport and industrial PPE. We are becoming the primary source of real-world crash data across every protective gear category, and we build the data tools that manufacturers and testing bodies use to engineer safer products and standards. Our engineering and product centre is in Hyderabad, with helmet testing labs in Hyderabad and London, and teams across India, the UK and the US.

## Why this role exists
Our software team builds the apps, cloud services and web tools that turn sensor data from a helmet into a crash alert, a simple NFC tag into a data operations platform for global brands and more. The team has shipped a lot, fast. We are looking to strengthen this team with a leader who will make it consistently excellent: stronger engineers, higher standards and processes that deliver outcomes end to end. You will lead the people and the work. You will hire, grow and hold the bar for every software engineer at Quin, and stay hands-on and close to the code.
##

## What you'll own
People and performance
- Lead the software team day to day
- Grow engineers.
- Build a culture where everyone owns their work from start to finish, where problem-solving is an obsession, and people and achievements are celebrated.
Hiring
- Own software hiring with senior leadership: plan the roles, run the technical assessments and make the call.
- Raise the bar with every hire.
Engineering quality
- Set and enforce standards for code review, testing, CI/CD and documentation across mobile, backend and web.
- Improve quality aggressively. Move the team from manual testing at the end towards automated testing built in from the start.
- Remove single points of failure. Every critical system has a second owner and documentation that someone else can use.
Hands-on engineering
- Review code and designs every week. Know the codebase well enough to spot risk early.
- Step in on hard problems: debug a production issue, unblock a stuck feature, or pair with an engineer on a tricky design.
Working across Quin
- Work with the TPM on realistic estimates and capacity, so delivery dates are consistently hit.
- Work with Product and Design on requirements, playing a key role on what & why, not just how.
- Work with the Embedded / Platform Lead where app and cloud meet firmware and BLE.

##

Who you are

- You're a builder of people.
- You have grit.
- You're optimistic and honest.
- You know and can communicate the why.
- You're still an engineer. (eg You review code every week and would rather work on a hard bug than write a status report.)
- You're present. (eg You lead from the floor in Hyderabad, and your team always knows where to find you.)
This role isn't for you if you want to stop being hands-on, you measure success by headcount, or you need a settled, process-heavy environment to do your best work.
## Must-haves

- 7+ years in software engineering, with 3+ years managing engineers directly in a product company.
- Strong hands-on background in at least one of: mobile (iOS or Android), backend/cloud, or web. Working knowledge of the others.
- A track record of growing engineers, with people you can name who moved up under your leadership.
- Experience introducing engineering standards from an early stage: code review, automated testing, CI/CD and documentation.
- Hiring experience: you have designed technical assessments and built a team.
- Clear, direct written and spoken communication skills without depending on AI polish. You can explain a technical decision to an engineer, a product manager and/or a client.
- You use AI tools heavily in your own work and know how to make a team faster with them, but you could do the job without it.

Strong pluses

- Apps that work with connected hardware: BLE, IoT, wearables or automotive.
- Real-time or safety-critical systems, where a missed event matters.
- Data-heavy products: streaming sensor data, analytics or ML pipelines.
- Moving a team from manual QA to automated testing.
- Platforms serving enterprise customers with security and compliance needs (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR).

## How we work
We are a small team of senior doers who move fast with excellence. Our managers lead by example, not by layers. You will have real ownership of your team and its standards, with very little bureaucracy, and we expect you to use it.

## Our hiring process & AI use
Use AI tools freely on any exercise. The only rule: declare what you used and be ready to defend every decision live. The recruitment process will involve at least 2 interviews and 1 assignment with live debrief.
