Compliance Advisor – Customs & Trade Compliance
Full-time | Assurance | Location – Olathe, KS
Are you a customs and trade compliance professional who excels at providing clear guidance, keeping processes structured, and ensuring operational alignment? TVH is looking for a Compliance Advisor – Customs & Trade Compliance to join our team in Olathe.
In this role, your core focus will be on Customs & Trade Compliance. You will advise internal clients on standardized and patterned trade compliance issues while monitoring daily adherence to relevant import/export regulations and company procedures. Working under general supervision and alongside senior colleagues in the global Assurance department, you will ensure our international trade operations remain transparent, structured, and fully compliant.
YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Advice (Customs & Trade)
- Standardized Guidance: Provide practical advice and recommendations to internal clients regarding straightforward, routine customs and trade compliance issues within your assigned unit.
- Decision Support: Analyze trade and import/export situational contexts under the direction of senior compliance staff to ensure timely information is available for internal decision-making.
Compliance Issues & Incidents
- Identification & Analysis: Identify, investigate, and advise on patterned customs compliance risks, trade incidents, and standard operational issues.
- Structured Reporting: Utilize current trade regulatory systems, processes, and standard templates to prepare accurate findings that provide clear insight into customs risk.
Reporting & Auditing Support
- Data Tracking: Gather, track, and register trade compliance findings, incidents, and support requests across designated functional or regional areas.
- Audit Readiness: Maintain accessible, transparent trade records to support internal and external customs auditing processes and inform ongoing business actions.
Compliance Policies & Governance
- Policy Maintenance: Assist in maintaining customs governance frameworks and active trade compliance policies.
- Process Improvement: Signal instances of non-compliance, highlight operational bottlenecks in current trade procedures, and help draft practical improvement plans.
Knowledge & Industry Development
- Regulatory Awareness: Maintain up-to-date general knowledge of applicable customs laws, trade regulations, and standards (e.g.,C-TPAT, Origin Management, Export Control, etc).
- Operational Alignment: Stay informed on market trends, product classifications, and internal process changes to ensure aligned trade oversight.
Projects & Stakeholder Interaction
- Project Participation: Contribute customs and trade compliance perspectives to specific internal projects following standard project guidelines.
- Stakeholder Support: Monitor general unit compliance and interact regularly with internal stakeholders to exchange information, offer explanations, and provide clear trade guidance.
HOW TO SUCCEED / YOUR PROFILE
Technical & Functional Knowledge
- Experience: Relevant experience in an international trade, customs, trade compliance, legal, or audit-adjacent role within a structured global business environment.
- Regulatory Familiarity: General understanding of trade and regulatory frameworks such as C-TPAT, export controls, origin management, or product conformity.
- Systems & Process Proficiency: Comfortable working with standard reporting templates, tracking systems, and compliance databases to log and analyze trade data.
Mindset & Skills
- Detail-Oriented & Analytical: Ability to review situation-specific context, follow established work instructions, and produce accurate compliance reports.
- Effective Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to exchange clear information and guide internal stakeholders on standard trade procedures.
- Collaborative Spirit: Comfortable working under direct guidance while proactively signaling process bottlenecks and contributing to team projects.
