POSITION: Senior Manager, IT Applications - Research
DUTIES: The Senior Manager, IT Applications - Research is responsible for the life cycle planning of Research IT hardware, software and cloud resources through selection, operation, refresh, migration, optimization, retirement and disposal. Specific core duties and responsibilities include management, planning and execution of a Development Operations (DevOps) strategy to ensure quality software deployments and overall application health and performance by formulating and deploying long-term strategic plans for acquiring and enabling efficient and cost effective Research IT solutions in support of faculty and research staff; contributing to enterprise architecture roadmaps and decisions; designing the Research IT program strategy and manages the associated component projects; works directly with IT Enterprise Architecture, IT Operations and with the top business stakeholders to make key strategy decisions and design the Research IT roadmap; Research IT technology solution selection and implementation; presenting business cases to Senior Management alongside top business stakeholders; working on contracts and budget management; ensuring vendor's solutions evolve to continue to meet the organization's needs, by proactively identifying and prioritizing requirements for future releases; managing operational and technology development planning, including business requirements gathering, roadmap development, project planning, organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources; defining and communicating milestones, service level agreements, and resource allocation to executive team, department leads, support staff, and end users; reviewing performance of IT systems to determine operating costs, productivity levels, and upgrade requirements; contributing to business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives; researching potential technology solutions and implementations in support of new initiatives, opportunities, and procurement efforts; working with peer managers to develop IT policies and procedures; and establishing and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent IT activities.
RATE OF PAY: Between $161,782 and $165,554 per year.
REQUIREMENTS: Telecommuting permitted; must work in Bar Harbor, ME ~2-3 days/week. Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and 3 years experience as a Software Engineer or related position in Software Development and Application Configuration in an Agile environment working with ITIL service management framework or, alternatively a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field and 5 years experience as a Software Engineer or related position in Software Development and Application Configuration in an Agile environment working with ITIL service management framework. All qualified applicants must have 1 year of experience in all of the following: running scientific applications in high performing computing and large-scale storage environment in the cloud; systems design using Azure and Google Cloud Platform and development from business requirements analysis including commercial order testing using CareEvolve and other GCP, Clarity Lims, and Pathology Workbench and day-to-day operations; and applying scientific research laws including PCI, CLIA, HIPAA, GxP, CAP Checklist and appropriate government regulations as it relates to the transfer and use of data.
ADDRESS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is based at The Jackson Laboratory, 600 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609. Telecommuting from home permitted to The Jackson Laboratory headquarters in Bar Harbor, ME. Position requires in-office work on average 2-3 days per week at the Jackson Laboratory headquarters in Bar Harbor, ME. This is not a travel requirement, as The Jackson Laboratory requires employees to report to this location from within an acceptable commuting distance.
