About this role

Job Title: Battery Technician Job Description
The Battery Technician plays a critical, hands-on role in a cutting-edge cell development program, focusing on the day-to-day fabrication of developmental electrodes and cells and the execution of electrochemical testing programs that generate high-quality data to advance next-generation battery chemistries. This highly collaborative, lab-intensive position suits a technically skilled individual who takes pride in precision, consistency, and meticulous documentation while working closely with scientists and engineers to support innovation in advanced battery technology.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate developmental electrodes by preparing slurries, coating electrodes using drawdown and slot-die coaters, calendering to target density, and cutting, weighing, and inspecting electrodes to ensure they meet dimensional and mass-loading specifications.
- Assemble coin cells, pouch cells, and small-format cylindrical cells in dry-room and glovebox environments, including the safe preparation and handling of liquid electrolytes and air-sensitive materials.
- Set up, run, and monitor electrochemical test programs on battery cyclers to generate reliable performance and characterization data for cell development.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and environments, including routine checks, basic troubleshooting, and coordination of consumable inventory to ensure continuous operation.
- Manage consumable inventory by tracking usage, organizing supplies, and communicating replenishment needs to keep laboratory activities running smoothly.
- Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and records, documenting procedures, test conditions, results, and observations with a strong commitment to data integrity.
- Follow all chemical hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE), and safety protocols, and ensure that laboratory spaces remain clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
- Adhere to detailed written procedures for electrode fabrication, cell assembly, and testing, and contribute feedback to improve and refine standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers to support experimental plans, adjust test parameters as needed, and communicate test results and observations in a clear and timely manner.
Essential Skills
- 13 years of hands-on experience in a battery, electrochemistry, or materials laboratory environment, including internship experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in electrode coating, calendering, and cell assembly for coin cells, pouch cells, or cylindrical cells.
- Familiarity with battery cyclers and basic electrochemical test setup, including configuring test protocols and monitoring test progress.
- Comfort working in dry-room and glovebox environments with air-sensitive materials and liquid electrolytes.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and experiments simultaneously while maintaining high quality standards.
- Proven commitment to data integrity, including accurate record-keeping and careful documentation of procedures, parameters, and results.
- Ability to follow detailed written procedures and standard operating protocols reliably and consistently.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, including safe chemical handling, PPE requirements, and emergency procedures.
- Foundational knowledge of chemistry relevant to battery materials and electrochemical systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience contributing to the development or refinement of laboratory procedures and standard operating protocols.
- Comfort working in a highly collaborative environment and communicating effectively with scientists, engineers, and other technical staff.
- Interest in advanced battery technologies, including silicon-dominant anodes and next-generation lithium-ion battery systems.
- Motivation to support innovations that improve energy density, charging performance, safety, and cost-effectiveness of battery technologies.
Work Environment
This role operates primarily in a laboratory environment that involves regular handling of chemicals, solvents, and battery materials. The position requires sustained hands-on work with electrode fabrication equipment, battery cyclers, dry-room facilities, and gloveboxes for air-sensitive operations. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and established safety procedures must be followed at all times to ensure safe handling of materials and equipment. The work setting emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to chemical hygiene and safety protocols. Some weekend or extended-hours work may be required to support ongoing electrochemical test programs and to ensure continuous data collection for long-duration experiments. The broader mission focuses on advancing high-energy-density, fast-charging, and cost-effective battery technologies that support secure and sustainable energy and transportation solutions.
