Job Title: Senior Project Manager Job Description
The Senior Project Manager leads complex, multi-million-dollar construction projects from pre-construction through closeout, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, and within budget. This role provides strategic leadership to field project managers, general contractors, subcontractors, and internal teams, while maintaining strong relationships with project stakeholders. The Senior Project Manager oversees project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and financial performance, and plays a key role in resolving design and construction issues across all trades.
Responsibilities
- Lead and consult with field project managers, general contractors, and owners to build strong, collaborative relationships that support successful project delivery.
- Manage the full pre-construction and preplanning process, including developing and maintaining construction project schedules.
- Leverage strong relationships with general contractors and subcontractors to support project timelines and budgets.
- Take full ownership and accountability for projects under your direction, from initiation through completion.
- Solve complex problems related to project schedules and budgets as an active and engaged member of the project team.
- Review and approve project budgets for labor, materials, and subcontractors, ensuring effective allocation of manpower, equipment, and materials within budgetary limits.
- Negotiate and create subcontractor contracts with external vendors to secure agreements that are beneficial to the project.
- Manage project finances, including monitoring profitability and cash flow throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide indirect leadership and guidance to construction crews to support safe and efficient project execution.
- Actively participate in resolving design conflicts across all trades by collaborating with engineers, architects, and other professionals to define project specifications.
- Lead strategic planning activities and oversee the submittal, request for information (RFI), and change order processes.
- Implement monthly cost reports and maintain accurate cost projections to support informed decision-making.
- Identify, recognize, and resubmit change orders as necessary to ensure proper documentation and compensation for scope changes.
- Review and approve payment applications, including supplier and subcontractor invoices, ensuring accuracy and compliance with contractual terms.
- Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards on site and promptly report any issues or concerns.
- Project, identify, and manage CAD, fabrication, and field labor resources required to complete the work efficiently.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Provide direct oversight and accountability for subcontractors involved in the project.
- Provide indirect oversight for field personnel and internal support services involved in project execution.
- Provide direct leadership for project engineers (PEs) and assistant project managers (APMs).
- Train estimating staff on the technical aspects of project management to improve accuracy and alignment with field operations.
- Understand company resource production capabilities and incorporate them into the construction process, including daily coordination with the superintendent.
- Professionally solicit and coordinate with vendors and suppliers during the procurement process to secure materials and services.

- In-depth understanding of construction procedures, materials, and project management principles.
- Experience with pipe systems and industrial construction environments.
- Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university, or 10+ years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience leading large, multi-million-dollar complex construction projects, with a minimum of approximately 4 years in a leadership capacity on such projects.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar discipline is highly preferred.
- Experience in pharmaceutical or related industrial construction environments.
- Experience using Bluebeam software for project documentation and coordination is highly valued.
- Experience using Procore or similar construction management platforms is highly valued.
- Experience managing CAD, fabrication, and field labor resources.
- Ability to train and mentor estimating staff on technical and project management topics.
- Professional experience soliciting and managing relationships with vendors and suppliers during procurement.
Work Environment
This role operates primarily in a fast-paced construction office environment with regular interaction with field sites and construction crews. The position involves close collaboration with engineers, architects, superintendents, subcontractors, and internal support teams, using tools such as Bluebeam, Procore, CAD resources, and other project management systems. The work includes managing industrial and pharmaceutical-related construction projects, which may involve complex mechanical and pipe systems. The project is expected to last a little over a year, and candidates should be open to travel and to relocating or traveling to subsequent projects as demand requires. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to procedures, and maintaining a clean and orderly workspace, both in the office and on-site.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Charlotte, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $150000.00 - $180000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
