Job Title: Pharmacist Job Description This contract-to-hire Pharmacist role supports daily operations in a long-term care pharmacy, ensuring medications are processed, verified, and dispensed accurately and safely in a high-volume, production-focused environment. You will combine hands-on clinical responsibilities with operational leadership, overseeing pharmacy technicians and production staff while maintaining strict compliance with all applicable pharmacy regulations and standards. Responsibilities
- Review and verify new and refill prescriptions for accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness.
- Perform clinical reviews to identify and resolve potential drug interactions, allergies, duplications, and other medication-related concerns.
- Verify medication packaging and labeling prior to dispensing to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Support and manage the daily pharmacy workflow to meet production goals and strict deadlines in a high-volume setting.
- Provide oversight, direction, and support to pharmacy technicians and production staff throughout the dispensing process.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable pharmacy laws and regulations, including DEA and HIPAA requirements.
- Assist with the handling, documentation, storage, and inventory management of controlled substances.
- Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of sterile IV medications and solutions, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate, efficient, and safe dispensing practices in a fast-paced, production-focused pharmacy environment.
- Collaborate with pharmacists, technicians, and other pharmacy staff to ensure medications reach patients safely, accurately, and on time.
- Provide constructive feedback, coaching, and guidance to pharmacy team members to support performance and development.
- Perform data entry related to prescriptions, refills, prior authorizations, and insurance processing as needed.
- Support pharmacy management activities, including workflow optimization, inventory control, and fulfillment processes.
- Assist with resolving insurance, Medicaid, and other third-party coverage issues related to prescriptions and prior authorizations.
- Contribute to medication safety initiatives, therapeutic review, and adherence to best practices in long-term care pharmacy.
- Perform additional pharmacy-related duties as assigned to support overall operations and patient care.
Essential Skills
- Current, active pharmacist license in good standing, required for this position.
- Experience reviewing prescriptions for accuracy, completeness, and clinical appropriateness.
- Demonstrated ability to perform drug interaction and allergy screening in a pharmacy setting.
- Proficiency in medication dispensing, labeling, and verification processes.
- Experience working in a pharmacy environment, such as retail, institutional, or long-term care.
- Ability to manage workflow and meet high-volume production goals and deadlines.
- Experience providing oversight or direction to pharmacy technicians and production staff.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of pharmacy practice.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with pharmacy staff and other stakeholders.
- Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced, production-focused pharmacy environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills when addressing medication and operational issues.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with pharmacists, technicians, and other pharmacy team members.
- Knowledge of DEA, HIPAA, and general pharmacy compliance requirements.
- Experience handling, documenting, and maintaining inventory of controlled substances.
- Ability to meet production goals and deadlines while maintaining high quality and safety standards.
- Reliability and ability to work independently with minimal supervision during assigned shifts.
- Comfort and willingness to work the MondayFriday, 5:30 PM1:00 AM shift on a consistent basis.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree is highly valued.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) experience or familiarity with technician workflows is beneficial when providing oversight.
- Experience in long-term care, institutional, specialty, or other high-volume pharmacy environments is a strong plus.
- Experience in retail pharmacy, fulfillment, or pharmacy support functions, including prescription refills and data entry.
- Experience with prior authorization processes, insurance verification, and Medicaid or other third-party payers.
- Exposure to pharmacy management, workflow optimization, and operational leadership responsibilities.
- Understanding of therapeutic drug classes and their appropriate use in long-term care or similar settings.
- Sterile IV preparation or supervision experience is a plus and may be used in overseeing IV compounding activities.
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience with pharmacy technicians or production staff.
- Comfort working with pharmacy software systems, computers, phones, and related technology used in dispensing and inventory management.
- Interest in transitioning from a contract role into a stable, full-time permanent pharmacist position.
- Motivation to expand experience in medication safety, compliance, controlled substances management, and pharmacy workflow optimization.
Work Environment This is an onsite position in a long-term care pharmacy located in Columbus, OH, operating in a fast-paced, production-focused environment. The schedule is Monday through Friday from 5:30 PM to 1:00 AM, with no routine travel required. Overtime, holiday coverage, or occasional weekend/on-call work may be required based on business needs. You will work with pharmacy equipment, computers, phones, medication carts, and inventory systems on a regular basis. The setting may involve moderate to loud noise levels and requires strong attention to detail and accuracy throughout each shift. Physical demands include sitting or standing for extended periods of approximately 710 hours per day, as well as bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking throughout the facility. The role may require lifting and moving items weighing up to 25 pounds. The environment offers a contract-to-hire structure with a clear path toward a permanent position, consistent weekday hours, and the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in long-term care pharmacy while contributing to both clinical services and operational leadership.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $61.00 - $63.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
