Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of the School of Applied Engineering and Technology (SAET), the Assistant Director for CIM Student Recruitment & Retention is a temporary position for Fiscal Year 2027 funded by the Concrete Industry Management (CIM) National Steering Committee. The Assistant Director is responsible for promoting and recruiting for the CIM program to prospective students, as well as engaging enrolled students to support retention and graduation efforts.
Working closely with NJIT University Admissions and leveraging their enrollment systems (e.g., Slate, Banner, Workday), the individual will collaborate directly with the SAET Built Environment Division (SBED) Academic Advisor and the Coordinator of the CIM Program to execute a unified recruitment and retention strategy. This position manages broad territory travel, high school and community college recruitment, college fairs, and industry outreach. The position requires considerable planning, travel, follow-through, and accountability.
Essential Functions:
- Student Recruitment & Admissions Alignment: Work directly with NJIT University Admissions and utilize admissions systems/software (Slate, Banner, Workday) to learn, implement, and track best practices in student recruitment. Work with SAET leadership to develop, execute, and monitor a recruitment strategy and territory plan to increase CIM enrollment.
- High School & Community College Outreach: Handle extensive high school visits, college fairs, transfer days, and broad outreach events organized by NJIT Admissions, partnering with the SBED Advisor. Build and maintain recruitment relationships with community colleges.
- Data Analysis & Leadership Collaboration: Coordinate with the SBED Academic Advisor and SAET Leadership to analyze applicant pool trends, target demographic data, accepted student profiles, and yield rates.
- Industry & Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with industry recruitment professionals from Patron companies. Deliver presentations on the CIM program for university and non-university audiences, including potential collaborators and members of the Patrons group.
- Program Marketing & Outreach: In consultation with the Office of Strategic Communication, University Admissions, and the SBED Academic Advisor, execute promotional marketing campaigns and brand alignment for the CIM program. Utilize social media and marketing tools to enhance CIM brand recognition among prospective STEM students.
- Event & Regional Representation: Serve as the primary representative for broad out-of-region travel, external industry events, and national conferences, utilizing content and program metrics provided in coordination with the SBED Advisor and Program Coordinator. Support major campus recruitment events led by the SBED Advisor, including the CIM Career Fair, CIM Milestone Event, and Concrete Experiential Day.
- Student Retention & Program Support: Work closely with the CIM Program Coordinator, SBED Academic Advisor, and Director of SAET to align recruitment with academic retention strategies. Support student engagement by directing prospective and current students toward active participation in CIM Student Chapters in coordination with the CIM Faculty Advisor. Participate in CIM National Steering Committee Recruiter and Retention meetings.
Additional Functions
- Work with the SBED Advisor to monitor student enrollment and retention trends to ensure consistency and support actionable outreach strategies.
- Perform other aligned recruitment, marketing, and retention activities at the direction of the Director of SAET.
Pre-Requisite Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with diverse constituencies, prospective students, parents, and industry partners.
- Demonstrated ability to self-motivate, exercise discretion, manage projects, and work independently.
- Exceptional public speaking skills and ability to present the University positively to individual students and large audiences.
- Valid driver's license and personal vehicle required to perform job functions (reimbursed per university policy).
- Availability and willingness to work regular, weekend, and extended hours, along with extensive year-round travel.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to quickly adapt to new software systems.
- At the university's discretion, an equivalent combination of education and experience preparing the candidate for success in the position may be accepted.
- Experience working with higher education admissions platforms, specifically Slate and Banner.
- Experience working in a STEM-based public university or engineering technology environment.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to new and changing software and data management systems.
At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
