Position Summary:
The Coordinator- Port Drayage and Inland Logistics plays a vital role in managing the movement of imported fruit ingredients from US ports of entry to our domestic warehouses and customer locations. They will plan and manage inbound and outbound transportation for both domestic and international customers and suppliers. The ideal candidate is collaborative and thrives in a fast-paced environment, excels at logical problem-solving, and is hyper-focused on minimizing demurrage and per diem costs while maintaining product integrity.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Port Drayage & Container Management
- Import Tracking: Monitor ocean vessel arrival schedules and container status at major US ports to prepare for immediate customs clearance and pickup.
- Drayage Coordination: Schedule and dispatch drayage carriers to pull containers from marine terminals and deliver them to regional warehouses or cross-dock facilities.
- Cost Control: Actively manage container free time to eliminate demurrage, detention, and per diem fees through meticulous scheduling and tracking.
Inland Logistics & Freight Routing
- Domestic Trucking: Interact with transportation carriers (all modes) to obtain rate quotes, transit times, and to track/trace/expedite shipments as required to meet customer expectations.
- Cold Chain Integrity: Ensure all carriers comply with strict temperature-controlled requirements necessary for food ingredients during transit.
Data Integrity & Compliance
- System Tracking: Input tracking milestones, freight costs, and delivery statuses into the company's ERP platform in real time.
- Documentation Review: Review and verify import documentation, ocean bills of lading (OBL), and delivery receipts (DR) for accuracy.
Invoice Auditing: Audit carrier freight invoices against agreed-upon rate sheets to ensure financial accuracy before submission to accounts payable.
Requirements
- Experience in logistics coordination, with a specific, demonstrable background in US port drayage and ocean import operations. Experience with perishable goods or food manufacturing is desirable.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel) and experience utilizing freight tracking portals, terminal operating systems (TOS), and ERP systems.
- Experience with domestic transportation terms and procedures, including freight terms, documentation, claims filing, load planning and shipment tender.
- Experience with international terms and procedures, including INCOTERMS, ISF filing, Commercial Invoices, customs clearance and Harmonized Tariff classification.
