About this role
Tesla’s Optimus Hardware Validation team runs testing to prove the robot hardware will survive real-world use. Working at Tesla is fast-paced, and being reliable, detail-oriented, and self-motivated is critical.
In this role, you will work as a member of Tesla’s Optimus Hardware Validation and Test Team to execute component and sub-system tests. You will prepare samples, set them up on testers, keep tests running, replace samples at defined intervals, and complete inspections using SOPs to collect valuable data and metrics. You will work closely with Engineering Technicians and Test Engineers in a fast-paced lab environment.
As a successful candidate, you follow procedures, keep testers productive, and escalate clearly when something is outside the expected result.
- Prepare samples for testing by labeling, performing incoming checks, documenting serial numbers and test IDs, then install on testers while verifying all connections, fixtures, and safety interlocks before initiating tests per assigned procedures
- Monitor running tests and equipment status continuously to keep testers operational and minimize downtime between samples, escalating any equipment issues that arise
- Remove and replace samples at defined intervals, including end-of-test teardown, proper sample handling, and handoff for the next step in the process
- Perform comprehensive inspections using SOPs that include visual checks, measurements with torque wrenches, calipers, DMMs, and other hand or automated tooling to ensure quality standards
- Document pre-test inspections, checkpoints, teardown observations, and test data using MS Excel or other tracking systems to maintain complete sample genealogy and traceability
- Execute first-line recovery for common issues such as reseating connections, restarting sequences, or clearing known alarms; stop and escalate when issues fall outside SOP coverage
- Communicate proactively with Engineering Technicians, engineers, and leadership when tests stop, samples are out of spec, or equipment needs attention; support lab organization and enforce safety protocols
- 1+ years of hands-on experience in a lab, manufacturing, test, or similar environment with demonstrated ability to work effectively in fast-paced technical settings
- Strong ability to follow SOPs and work instructions precisely, with good judgment to stop and escalate when procedures don't cover a situation
- Proficiency using basic hand tools and comfort working around test equipment, with the ability to handle samples and fixtures safely
- Meticulous attention to detail ensuring sample identity, test setup, and documentation are never ambiguous or incomplete
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to gaining and sharing knowledge with colleagues
- Solution-oriented attitude with a strong sense of ownership, responsibility, and accountability for your work and high commitment to safety practices
- Physical capability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 45 lbs as part of routine sample and fixture handling
- Familiarity with environmental stress testing or automated test systems
- Experience with serialized parts, travelers, or quality systems
- Ability to work the assigned shift, including nights or weekends if required by test schedules
