POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Department of Language at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in Linguistics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Linguistics or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching Linguistics in a degree-granting program. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths .
Candidates must have teaching experience in a degree-granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and innovative teaching practices such as Experiential Learning, as well as a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities in Linguistics. Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to teach a range of class sizes and course levels, and an interest in developing a long-term career in teaching and related scholarly activity in Linguistics. We are looking for a colleague who specializes in sound systems (phonetics/phonology), with preference given to candidates with a secondary specialization in language acquisition, speech-language disorders, or documentation.
Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier (including the required materials outlined below), and strong letters of reference.
Candidates must also show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and to the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment, as demonstrated through the application materials.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be assigned a teaching and service load.
HIRING SALARY RANGE
The salary range is $115,000 - $135,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.

The Department of Language Studies, located at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), offers a rich selection of undergraduate programs in Linguistics, French, and English & Chinese Translation. Our faculty are internationally recognized scholars whose research encompasses a wide range of fields, including language acquisition, multilingualism, psycholinguistics, translation, discourse analysis, language documentation and revitalization, sociolinguistics, French language and literature, and English and Chinese translation.
