About This Role

As an Engineer II/III Automation, you will join the Automation & MES team at Biogen’s RTP Bio site, supporting both operational excellence and project-driven goals. This role provides technical solution development and hands-on support for DeltaV DCS and Syncade MES systems, partnering cross-functionally to design, implement, maintain, and continuously improve automation solutions that support biopharmaceutical manufacturing operations. You will be responsible for recipe authoring, software configuration, validation activities, change controls, troubleshooting, and ensuring seamless integration with systems such as PI Historian, Oracle, CMMS, Veeva, and Labware (LIMS). This position plays a critical role in optimizing manufacturing operations, enhancing system reliability, and supporting the site's long-term automation strategy.

What You'll Do

- Configure and maintain DeltaV DCS and Syncade MES software to support process improvements, new products, and new equipment implementations.
- Partner with Process Owners, Manufacturing, and cross-functional stakeholders to design and implement software that meet s operational and engineering requirements.
- Author, review, and approve MES and DeltaV DCS documentation, including lifecycle documents, project documents, procedures, work instructions, and validation deliverables.
- Create and execute software testing scripts and support software validation activities in accordance with established procedures and GAMP 5 principles.
- Define and support validation strategies in collaboration with Quality representatives and ensure consistency in execution across disciplines.
- Execute and manage change controls for DeltaV DCS and Syncade MES systems while maintaining compliance with site procedures and quality requirements.
- Troubleshoot MES and DCS system issues during testing and manufacturing operations, including participation in an on-call support rotation.
- Identify and implement opportunities for optimization in system design, programming, testing, integrations, and operational processes.
- Collaborate with automation, data systems, manufacturing, and engineering teams to ensure systems continue to meet evolving site needs.
- Support and lead small to medium engineering projects, ensuring timely execution and adherence to quality standards.
- Evaluate technical options and recommend optimal solutions for system enhancements and integrations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and drive operational excellence through automation solutions.
- Maintain training requirements, establish development goals, and support knowledge sharing across the team.

Required Skills for an Engineer II

Salary Range: 65K-85K

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 0-2 years of experience in a GMP manufacturing environment
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional teams

Required Skills for an Engineer III

Salary Range: 77K-100K

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with MES recipe authoring (preferably Syncade) and/or supporting DeltaV in an engineering related capacity
- Strong understanding of system validation, change controls, and troubleshooting within MES and DCS environments
- Proven ability to develop and implement automation solutions that support manufacturing and operational objectives
- Ability to evaluate technical options and drive optimal system enhancements across automation platforms
- Experience providing technical leadership and collaborating across functions to meet site goals

Preferred Skills

- Experience supporting large-scale biotech or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with integrations involving PI Historian, Oracle, CMMS, Veeva, and Labware (LIMS)
- Experience supporting investigations and implementing corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs)
- Ability to lead cross-functional meetings and coordinate change implementation activities
- Familiarity with GAMP 5 principles and regulated system compliance requirements
- Experience identifying and implementing process, design, and system optimization opportunities
- Interest in expanding expertise across automation platforms and integrated manufacturing systems
- Experience serving as a subject matter expert for MES, DeltaV or other automation systems within a manufacturing environment

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $77,000.00-$100,250.00
Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
