Your Role: Automotive Diagnostic Technician / Fleet Mechanic
Are you an experienced mechanic who enjoys finding the cause of a problem and making a repair you can stand behind?
Fountain Services is seeking an Automotive Diagnostic Technician / Fleet Mechanic to help maintain and repair our company-owned vehicles and construction equipment. Based at our Spindale, NC headquarters , you will work in a fully equipped on-site garage with an established team of mechanics.
Your work will directly support the crews who depend on safe, reliable vehicles and equipment every day.
Position Overview
In this role, you will troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues, complete repairs, and perform preventive maintenance across a varied fleet.
We are looking for someone who can work through a diagnosis, explain what needs to be repaired, and verify that the problem has been resolved. If you bring strong hands-on experience, sound judgment, and a commitment to quality work, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, electronic, and hydraulic issues on fleet vehicles and construction equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance to keep vehicles and equipment safe, dependable, and ready for use.
- Use scan tools, multimeters, and diagnostic software to identify faults and determine necessary repairs.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and manufacturer service information.
- Complete repairs accurately and verify results through road tests and operational checks.
- Maintain clear records of inspections, diagnostic findings, repairs, and maintenance.
- Coordinate with fellow mechanics and supervisors to prioritize work and minimize downtime.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow company safety procedures.
Skills and Qualifications
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in automotive or heavy equipment repair and diagnostics .
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and complete repairs with minimal supervision.
- Experience using diagnostic scan tools, multimeters, and related equipment.
- Working knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, vehicle electrical systems, and hydraulic components.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and pride in completing dependable repairs.
- Ability to communicate findings and work effectively with other mechanics.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must pass a mandatory drug screening.
- ASE certification or equivalent is preferred, but not required. We value demonstrated repair and diagnostic experience.
Physical Requirements
- Lift and move 50+ pounds .
- Work beneath vehicles, in overhead positions, and from ladders or scaffolds as needed.
- Perform tasks involving repetitive reaching, squatting, kneeling, crouching, and bending.
- Work in varying temperatures, including heat and cold.
- Maintain the balance, coordination, and stamina needed to perform hands-on maintenance and repair work safely.
