Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Manager Infection Prevention and Control, Clinical Collaborative Practices, Health and Transition Services (H&TS) and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Vision and Values of St.Amant, the Clinical Resource Nurse provides clinical nursing care to people supported at H&TS:
- Providing expert nursing care to selected individuals and their families;
- Collaborating with the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary team in the planning, implementation and evaluation of care;
- Initiating diagnostic and therapeutic investigations/interventions as per scope of practice; acting as a clinical and information resource;
- Participating in orientation and educational activities at the individual, family, team and organization levels;
- Participating in rounds and in clinical research project;
- Attending clinical and outreach activities;
- Supporting performance conversations with unregulated health provides at the site and performing other related duties as assigned
The Clinical Resource Nurse facilitates efficiency and effectiveness in clinical health care and service to people supported by H&TS. The Clinical Resource Nurse models and promotes a strong person-centred focused service approach that supports independence, individual choice and personalized environments while recognizing that the person is part of a greater community whereby a family centred approach is also support.
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program (RN or RPN required)
- Bachelor of Nursing Degree preferred or equivalent, combination of education and experience will be considered
- Current Basic Life Support - Health Care Provider level (BCLS-HCP) required
- Mindful Practice for Direct Support Professional required or a commitment to successfully completing this training within 3 months of start date
- Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training required or a commitment to successfully completing this training within 6 months of start date
- Vulnerable Person's Act (VPA) training required
- Family Centred Practice training required or a commitment to successfully completing this training within 3 months of start date
- PACCA (Child Protection and Reporting Child Abuse) required or a commitment to successfully completing this training within 3 months of start date
- Specialized Behaviour Management Training required or a commitment to successfully completing this training within 6 months of start date
- Current Critical Incident Stress Management Defusing level training is an asset
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years as a RN or RPN
- Minimum of three (3) years working with people with developmental disabilities, ABI and/or Autism
- Minimum of one (1) year in a formal supervisory or leadership role such as a Resource Nurse, Nurse Clinician, or Nurse Consultant is an asset
- Expertise and competence in nursing practice, interviewing, teaching and group dynamics
- Strong interest in the needs/issues of persons with significant intellectual and physical disabilities and extensive knowledge of the history of services, current philosophy and service trends concerning their care and lifestyle
- Familiar with the MNU Collective Agreement and CRNM, CRPNM and CLPN practice standards and minimum competencies
- Familiar with the MGEU Collective Agreement
Other
- Valid Class 5 Manitoba Drivers License and access to own vehicle is required
- Knowledge of and adherence to:
- College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses
- Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses
- Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) and Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines
- All relevant legislated acts, including but not limited to: Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions)
- Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team
- Principles of delegation and assigning tasks to unregulated healthcare professionals
Personal
- Good physical and mental health
- Moderate to heavy physical effort required; able to participate fully in the physical care of people across the age continuum according to accepted practice (e.g. transfers, lifting and non-violent crisis intervention)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners
- Demonstrated ability to assume leadership and accountability and to organize, direct and delegate effectively within a unionized working environment
- Self-motivated, confident, assertive, credible and compassionate
- Possesses the emotional stability necessary to serve as a model for cooperative teamwork, conflict resolution, change management and process improvement
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships within an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary team model
- Excellent time management, organizational and communication skills (written and oral)
- Proficient with computers, software programs and applications such as Windows, Word Processing, Microsoft Teams and Zoom
- May be required to work flexible hours, travel to community agencies, an individual's home, and/or other healthcare institutions. Access to reliable transportation from the designated work site is required
