The machinist accurately interprets technical blueprints and specifications, shaping materials such as steel, aluminum, and plastic to exact customer requirements. This role also involves performing crucial secondary operations, inspecting finished parts, and actively collaborating with various departments to ensure product quality and production efficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Machine Setup and Operation :

Set up and operate CNC Mill machines, including those with multi-turret and spindle capabilities, for both turning and milling processes.

- Load and unload parts in process sequence and ensure efficient machine operation.

- Programming and Tooling :

Create, manage, and modify CNC programs and offsets via the machine controller to maximize efficiency.

- Set up and manage perishable tooling using a tool pre-setter and install/remove tools from holders as required.

- Establish proper feeds and speeds to ensure maximum efficiency within acceptable tool life limits.

- Secondary Operations :

Perform secondary operations using various shop equipment, including saws, deburr machines, grinders, drill presses, tappers, manual lathes, and vibratory finishers.

- Quality Assurance :

Inspect parts using various gauges, micrometers, calipers, and CMM inspection to ensure all parts meet quality standards based on print interpretation and applied GD&T principles.

- Inventory and Logistics :

Verify, stock, and disperse parts and materials, coordinating with inventory systems to maintain accurate counts.

- Ensure all machined parts are properly deburred, finished, and prepared for assembly or shipment.

- Collaboration and Improvement :

Assist programmers during the proofing of new jobs and optimization of existing ones.

- Communicate production status, issues, and needs proactively with the Production Supervisor and other departments (Quality Assurance, Engineering, Maintenance).

QUALIFICATIONS

Strong understanding of CNC machine code, machining principles, and manufacturing processes.

- Proficient in blueprint reading and interpretation, including GD&T.

- Above-average math skills, including working with decimals and fractions.

- Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments and various hand and machine tools.

- Basic computer skills for monitoring work cells and processes.

- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of practical machine procedures to make adjustments when needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- This role operates within a climate-controlled manufacturing setting, involving exposure to moving machinery, noise, vibrations, and standard shop chemicals (e.g., coolants, lubricants).

- Physical demands include extensive standing, walking, bending, reaching, and performing manual dexterity tasks. The ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs is required.

- The machinist must handle sharp objects and be aware of pinch points and rotational hazards.

Qualifications

CRITICAL SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS :

- High school diploma or GED.

- Minimum of 1 year experience in the machining field.

- Technical or Trade School CNC Lathe/Mill Certification desired.
