About this role
We seek a highly motivated hands-on engineering technician in the Low Voltage Test Automation group, a team focused on creating robust, data-centric equipment for Tesla’s vehicle and robotic electronics. Our work spans the full product life cycle, from early engineering validation to high-volume production, and we are known across the company for tackling tough problems head-on and getting it done.
This team moves fast. Projects can go from idea to deployed test equipment in just weeks, supporting products on the cutting edge of Tesla’s innovation. The pace is demanding, and priorities can shift quickly, but that’s what makes the work exciting and impactful. As the team grows, we are looking for an engineering technician who not only enjoy tinkering and building but also want to bring clarity and structure to how we operate.
The ideal candidate thrives on hands-on problem solving, takes ownership, and is eager to grow. You’ll have the chance to work on real systems, see them in production, and directly shape how the team scales. Superior work is noticed, responsibility is high, and the impact is immediate. This is your opportunity to be part of the “machine that builds the machine” at Tesla’s global manufacturing headquarters in Austin, Texas.
Shift: 6:00am - 2:30pm; Monday - Friday
- Read electrical schematics and interpret 2D/3D designs to build, modify, and assemble test equipment with little oversight
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using first-principles reasoning, collaborating with engineers and escalating when additional support is needed
- Deploy test equipment on fast-paced production lines (Model Y, Cybertruck, and next-generation vehicles) and produce maintenance documentation and training materials for ongoing operation
- Maintain, organize, and continuously improve the team’s lab space to meet evolving operational needs
- Hands-on experience with low-voltage systems, wire harnesses, mechanical components, and electro-mechanical devices, plus exposure to industrial test equipment (pogo pins, sensors, PLCs, pneumatics, microcontrollers)
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and willing to learn; 2-year technical/automotive degree preferred
- Willingness to support equipment deployed across all Tesla factories, with up to 10% domestic and international travel
