Job Title: Drafter / CAD Technician Job Description This role focuses on drafting and design for telecommunications and utility projects using AutoCAD and ArcGIS. The drafter prepares detailed drawings and maps for underground and aerial fiber layouts, supports permitting activities, and produces construction-ready plan sets for use by field and construction teams as well as municipalities and other permitting authorities. Responsibilities
- Create accurate land base prints in AutoCAD for use by field crews and project teams.
- Develop and complete utility plan sets in AutoCAD that support construction of underground and aerial fiber networks.
- Prepare detailed permit drawings that meet the requirements of various permitting authorities and municipalities.
- Perform mapping work to support telecom and utility projects, including underground and aerial fiber layouts.
- Compile comprehensive job books upon project completion, including all relevant drawings, permits, and documentation.
- Import and export various file types between drafting, design, and GIS tools, including AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
- Support telecommunications, outside plant (OSP), right-of-way, utility distribution, and power distribution projects through accurate drafting and documentation.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure drawings comply with project specifications, standards, and timelines.
- Maintain organized project files and ensure all drawings and documents remain current and properly versioned.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for drafting and design work.
- Ability to generate land base prints and utility plan sets suitable for field use and construction.
- Capability to create clear and accurate permit drawings for various permitting authorities.
- Experience working with telecommunications or utility-related drawings, including underground and aerial layouts.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting and documentation.
- Ability to import and export multiple file types between drafting/design and GIS tools.
- Effective communication skills to work with project teams and interpret design requirements.
- Organizational skills to compile and maintain complete job books and project documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with ArcGIS or similar GIS software.
- Telecommunications industry experience, particularly in fiber network design or outside plant (OSP) projects.
- Exposure to right-of-way, utility distribution, or power distribution projects.
- Willingness to learn new tools and processes, with training support available.
- Interest in building a career in a growing telecommunications and utility engineering industry.
Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Milwaukee, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35000.00 - $50000.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
