Job Title: Piping Designer / Drafter Job Description
This Piping Designer / Drafter role focuses on supporting a wide range of piping design tasks in collaboration with discipline leads to deliver high-quality project work. You will produce accurate and constructible piping designs, drawings, and models while developing your technical capabilities through mentoring and supervision. Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with discipline leads to support a variety of piping design and drafting tasks required to complete project scopes of work.
- Prepare and update piping drawings, models, and related documentation using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D.
- Apply mechanical drafting principles to create accurate, clear, and detailed piping layouts and designs.
- Use Autodesk Navisworks tools such as Freedom, Simulate, or Manage to review, coordinate, and validate piping designs.
- Work with shop and fabrication leads to ensure designs are constructible and aligned with fabrication and installation requirements.
- Maintain organized project files and documentation, including drawing revisions and design records.
- Use Microsoft Word and Excel to support documentation, reporting, and coordination activities.
- Participate in design reviews and coordinate with other disciplines to resolve design issues and ensure alignment across project teams.
- Follow established drafting and design standards, procedures, and best practices to produce consistent, high-quality deliverables.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and shop/fabrication personnel to clarify design requirements and resolve questions.
- Take initiative in learning and applying new design tools, workflows, and technologies to improve design quality and efficiency.
- Travel to project sites as needed to support design coordination, field verification, and constructability reviews.
Essential Skills
- 03 years of experience as a pipe designer or piping drafter.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D for piping design and drafting.
- Experience with Autodesk Navisworks products such as Freedom, Simulate, or Manage for design review and coordination.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation and reporting.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate and thorough drawings and models.
- Effective organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, drawings, and project deliverables.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing effectively in a team environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with engineers, designers, and fabrication personnel.
- Ability to collaborate with shop and fabrication leads to ensure design constructability.
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel to and from project sites.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate degree in Computer-Aided Drafting or a related field preferred.
- Familiarity with Autodesk Vault for managing design files and revisions preferred.
- Demonstrated interest in long-term growth and development within piping design.
- Willingness to be mentored and to develop technical skills under supervision.
- Mechanical drafting background or experience working on mechanical or piping projects.
Work Environment
This role is primarily based onsite at an engineering office, where you will work closely with discipline leads, designers, and other project team members in a collaborative environment. You will use tools such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Autodesk Navisworks, Microsoft Word, and Excel as part of your daily work. Some site visits are required, which may involve travel to project locations to support field verification, design coordination, and constructability reviews. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Louis, MO.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
