About the Role

Are you passionate about data, artificial intelligence, analytics, and emerging technologies? As a 2027 Digital (NextGen AI & Data) Intern, you'll join AltaGas' growing Data & AI team and work alongside experienced business and technology professionals to support enterprise Data, Analytics, AI, and Digital Transformation initiatives.

Through meaningful projects and hands-on experience, you'll gain exposure to modern data platforms, analytics, automation, artificial intelligence, governance, and business transformation initiatives while helping shape the future of Data & AI at AltaGas.

Depending on your background, interests, and strengths, you may be aligned to one of two focus areas:

- AI & Data Engineering
- AI & Data Analytics

Both streams work closely together to deliver innovative solutions that create business value across AltaGas.

What You'll Do

AI & Data Engineering Focus

Students aligned to the AI & Data Engineering stream may:

- Support the development and maintenance of modern data platforms, data pipelines, and workflows that enable enterprise analytics and business insights.
- Assist with the ingestion, transformation, management, and monitoring of enterprise data assets.
- Contribute to the development, testing, and implementation of AI-enabled solutions, automation initiatives, and proof-of-concept projects.
- Support cloud-based data and analytics platforms while gaining exposure to modern software development and engineering practices.
- Work with structured and unstructured data to support reporting, analytics, and emerging AI use cases.
- Help improve data quality, monitoring, operational processes, and technical solutions that enable informed decision-making across the organization.

AI & Data Analytics Focus

Students aligned to the AI & Data Analytics stream may:

- Support enterprise Data, Analytics, AI, Governance, and Digital Transformation initiatives.
- Assist with data analysis, reporting, dashboard development, and insights generation to support strategic business decisions.
- Contribute to Data Governance and Data Quality initiatives by helping document standards, business definitions, processes, and reporting metrics.
- Support Copilot and AI adoption initiatives through training materials, workshops, communications, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Assist with presentations, executive materials, communications, and business cases that support AI and Data strategy initiatives.
- Conduct research and analysis on emerging AI, analytics, and digital technology trends to identify opportunities for innovation and business improvement.

Across Both Streams

All interns will:

- Collaborate with business and technology teams across AltaGas to solve challenges and deliver innovative solutions.
- Work on meaningful projects that support operational excellence, innovation, and data-driven decision-making.
- Gain exposure to enterprise-scale technologies, data platforms, governance practices, and business processes.
- Participate in special projects while developing practical skills in analytics, automation, artificial intelligence, data engineering, and digital transformation.

What You’ll Bring

- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Business Analytics, Business Technology Management, Information Systems, Commerce, Management Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in data, AI, technology, and innovation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt to new technologies, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Curiosity, initiative, and a passion for continuous learning.
- Experience with data analysis, programming, reporting tools, AI technologies, Microsoft 365, Power BI, Python, SQL, Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Git, APIs, or related technologies is considered an asset.
