Behind every therapy session and community support visit is a billing process that keeps our services running. As our Billing Specialist, you'll play a key role in making sure our clinicians can keep focusing on what matters most: the children and families we serve.
Who You'll Support
This is an in-person position based at our Albuquerque office. You'll support our Finance team, clinical supervisors, and admin/intake team. You'll ensure accurate, timely billing for the behavioral health services we provide in the office and in the community, and you'll build strong working relationships with our MCO partners.

Pay (Based on Experience)
1–2 Years (Entry): $22–$25/hr
3–5 Years (Mid): $25–$28/hr
6+ Years (Senior): $28–$32/hr
The Billing Specialist ensures accurate and timely claims processing, payment posting, and account reconciliation in support of our revenue cycle. You'll safeguard the financial integrity of our organization by maintaining compliance with payer requirements, resolving billing discrepancies, and supporting efficient reimbursement for behavioral healthcare services.
What You'll Do
- Oversee and streamline billing and collections processes, including:
submitting claims within 3 days of closed encounter notes
- reviewing claims to ensure encounter notes match the reimbursement codes used
- tracking open claims and following up with supervisors
- reporting chart errors to the BMS Coordinator
- Identify, correct, and resubmit denied claims, and contact insurance companies and clients as needed
- Maintain insurance and patient A/R, with a goal of 95% in the 0–30 day bucket
- Verify and process patient refunds within 3 days
- Partner with the admin/intake team on copays, deductibles, and outstanding balances
- Hold weekly or bi-weekly meetings with MCO representatives to resolve credentialing and denial issues
- Oversee reporting and data submission for The Data Project
- Stay current on payer contracts, insurance newsletters, and best billing practices, and share updates with leadership
Minimum Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of medical billing (behavioral health billing a plus)
- Knowledge of insurance companies, MCOs, and payer requirements
- Working knowledge of HIPAA
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once and work with minimal supervision
- Monday–Friday, in person at our Albuquerque office
- FULL-TIME, 40 HOURS PER WEEK. PART-TIME AND REMOTE POSITIONS ARE NOT AVAILABLE
Qualifying Education/Experience
Related experience may include medical billing, revenue cycle management, claims processing, A/R management, insurance verification, or healthcare administration. Certifications such as CPB, CPC, or CRCR are a plus but not required.
