Job Summary: This position supervises a team of APP professionals. This position should educate, mentor and coach staff in clinical practice. Responsible for providing health care services as delegated by physicians, including assessing and managing patients in the clinic following established standards and practices. The Advanced Practice Providers primary responsibility will be to assist the supervising Physician with inpatient hospital consultation, including taking and documenting history and physicals on new consultations, rounding on existing consults, following up on pathology from inpatient procedures and facilitating outpatient follow up of discharged patients.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct quality, timely, license-appropriate, patient care, under physician supervision, for a defined patient population(s), identifying normal/abnormal health characteristics, recognizing subtle cues to change in patient condition and focusing on identified expected unit/optimal outcomes, individualized to the patient.

- Prioritize care based on the patient's needs, abilities and preferences. Advocate for patients/families concerning ethical conflicts; develop supportive policies and guidelines, offer educational resources; empower patients/families to speak/represent selves when possible.

- Oversee patient assignment and distribution among Advanced Practice Providers for consults, new admissions, inpatients, as appropriate.

- Lead patient/family care rounds to assure patient safety and satisfaction. Round on service lines weekly, as appropriate, managing assignment of complex patient and other department demands. Report "near misses" as well as errors promptly and consistently to improve systems and processes and identify trends; role models situational awareness using "teachable moments" to improve safety.

- Anticipate routine and unexpected changes based on evidence. Elevate emergent situations and leads/coordinates team to achieve issue resolution.

Supervisor Responsibilities

- Provide daily supervision, oversight, direction, and monitoring of all direct reports.

- Provide final oversight and approval on the quality of work produced by the team to ensure established processes and procedures are followed.

- Responsible for the management of the team to include staff productivity, hours worked, and team responsibilities.

- Hire staff, to include interviewing candidates select the best applicant based on skills, knowledge, and abilities required for the job.

- Responsibility for training of new direct reports, and/or establishing a training plan to ensure new hire is successful

- Assists with performance evaluations.

- Participate in all leadership training activities

Qualifications

Education and Qualifications

- Master's degree for Nurse Practitioners or Bachelor's degree for Physician Assistant.

- Three (3) years of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioners or five (5) years of experience as a Physician Assistant in multi-specialty practice.

- Progressive management experience preferred.

- Licensed and Credentialed by the state Board of Physician Assistants or state RN license or temporary state RN license, must obtain permanent license within 90 days.

- Recognized and licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN) in applicable state(s).

- Certified by American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, based on applicable patient population, i.e. Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP), Acute Care Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (ACNPC-AG).

- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).

- American Heart Association Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

- Prescriptive authority privileges through the applicable state(s).

- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration within six (6) months of hire.

- American Heart Association Heartcode Pediatric Life Support (PALS) within six (6) months of hire preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Understand/comprehend English as well as read/follow written English instructions.

This role requires continuous activity levels in areas such as walking, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and reaching. It also requires dexterity in motion/flexibility. Ability to lift, push or pull 35+ or more. Must be able to differentiate colors and successfully pass color blind screening.

Work Environment

This job operates in a clinic and procedure room environment. There is potential to be exposed to blood, tissue, and bodily fluids. Involves exposure to Glutaraldehyde/Rapicide (Refer to SDS manual as needed).
