Job Title
Tech Lead, AI Software Engineering

AI Engineer

About your role:

As an AI Engineer, you will build and integrate modern artificial intelligence capabilities that support scalable, secure, and production-ready applications. You will work with engineering, platform, and product teams to develop large language model (LLM) integrations, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, and agentic workflows that improve business outcomes. Your work will help accelerate delivery of AI-enabled solutions through strong engineering practices, reliable integrations, and well-governed application design.

What you'll do:

- Design and implement integrations with large language model application programming interfaces (APIs) such as Claude, GPT, Gemini, or similar model platforms.
- Build and support Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations and related orchestration patterns that improve context handling and interoperability across AI-enabled applications.
- Develop agentic workflows and AI application frameworks using tools such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, CrewAI, or similar orchestration frameworks.
- Design, implement, and optimize retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, including embeddings, vector stores, retrieval logic, and response grounding techniques.
- Build backend services and APIs using Python, asynchronous programming techniques, FastAPI, or similar frameworks to support scalable AI application delivery.
- Partner with product, engineering, and platform teams to translate business needs into technical AI solutions that are measurable, maintainable, and production-ready.
- Evaluate and improve application reliability, performance, observability, and security across AI workflows and integrated services.
- Support engineering productivity through modern development workflows and tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or similar assisted development environments.
- Contribute to testing, validation, and continuous improvement of AI-enabled applications, ensuring solution quality and operational readiness.
- Responsibilities listed are not intended to be all-inclusive and may be modified as necessary.

Experience you'll need to have:

- 7+ years of experience in software engineering, machine learning engineering, artificial intelligence engineering, or related development roles building production applications.
- Experience integrating large language model APIs such as Claude, GPT, Gemini, or similar generative AI platforms into applications or services.
- Experience building agentic workflows or orchestration frameworks using LangChain, LlamaIndex, CrewAI, or similar tools.
- Experience developing retrieval-augmented generation pipelines including embeddings, vector databases, retrieval strategies, and prompt grounding approaches.
- Experience with Python, asynchronous programming, FastAPI, or similar backend development frameworks used to deliver scalable APIs and services.
- Experience working with application integration patterns, testing approaches, and engineering practices that support reliable and maintainable AI solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field or equivalent combination of education, related experience and/or military experience.

Experience that would be great to have:

- Experience with Model Context Protocol implementations or similar context-sharing and orchestration standards.
- Experience with observability, monitoring, and evaluation techniques for AI applications in production environments.
- Experience with prompt engineering, model behavior testing, and AI safety or governance practices.
- Experience using modern AI-assisted developer workflows such as Cursor, Claude Code, or similar tools.

How you'll work:

- This role is on-site Monday through Friday. Fiserv considers in-person collaboration to be an essential part of this role as in-person office experiences help you with your overall onboarding experience and leads to stronger productivity.

Thank you for considering employment with Fiserv.  Please:
