Job Title:  Math Interventionist (K-5)

Location: Great Hearts Arlington Lower School ( 6701 S Cooper St.
Arlington, TX 76001)

Reports to: Headmaster

FLSA STATUS:  Salaried-Exempt, Full-time

The  Mathematics Interventionist  :

- Provides direct instruction to students identified as eligible for math services in 1:1 and/or small group settings.

- Develops a student-centered system of intervention that effectively works to close the achievement gap in mathematics.

- Ensures that students master grade level standards and curriculum

- Creates a classroom environment and research-based program of study that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

- Demonstrates knowledge of scientifically based mathematics instruction.

- Uses a variety of manipulatives and hands-on activities to support content standards and meet the needs and capabilities of students

- Effectively analyzes/uses data and conducts student assessments to identify those eligible for intervention services, plan instruction, and assist staff members in learning various assessment techniques.

- Identifies student needs and data to guide the learning process toward achievement of district’s math content standards.

- Monitors and assesses student progress on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.

- Understands how to use technology for instructional planning, i.e. creating reports and using data to plan lessons.

- Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects using formal and informal assessment data.

- Communicates and collaborates with classroom teachers to ensure alignment between classroom instruction and interventions.

- Completes other duties as assigned

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional and Program Management

- Utilize student data to help teachers identify and group students who need additional support.
- Design intervention plans and monitor progress for students who are struggling.
- Maintain records of student work and progress toward mastery of skills identified in intervention plan.
- Maintain open and consistent communication about student progress, concerns, and achievement with families and the school community.
- Consult with teachers to develop appropriate strategies for addressing the needs of students.
- Serve as a resource for classroom teachers with strategies, plans and materials.
- Participate in district and campus trainings.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local policy.

Classroom Management and Organization

- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication

- Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

- Knowledge of the Section 504 process
- Knowledge of best practice strategies; Ability to interpret data
- Ability to communicate effectively and relate positively to parents, students, and staff
- Ability to work as a team
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility in high-pressure situations; Ability to handle high-volume, fast-paced workload
- Good judgment in handling confidential information; Detail-oriented

Qualifications:

Education/Certification

- Bachelor’s degree in Math, or a related field
- Valid Texas teaching certification in Math or a related area strongly preferred

Experience

- Three (3) years successful teaching experience and/or experience providing math intervention to K-5 students

Compensation:

Additional Requirements:

- Type of fingerprint clearance: Must possess or obtain valid Texas fingerprint clearance card.

- Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.

- Travel required: May need to occasionally travel locally to the various academies within the metro area.
