Job Title: Mechanical Designer/Drafter Job Description
The role involves spending the majority of the day at a CAD station, developing detailed part and assembly drawings for mechanical equipment such as drying equipment, conveyors, air filtration, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment. The focus will be on parts and assemblies rather than whole systems.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed part, weldment, and assembly drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor.
- Interpret existing drawings and revise or update designs as needed.
- Create installation drawings and ensure all title block information follows internal standards.
- Generate Bills of Materials and specify required materials such as sheet metal, structural steel, bearings, reducers, hardware, and related components.
- Research previous job documentation and drawing archives for reference and reuse opportunities.
- Review job information provided on internal job sheets and accurately enter and track job data in internal engineering databases.
- Support the fabrication shop by answering questions, resolving design issues, and ensuring drawings are manufacturable.
- Conduct measurements of equipment components and assemblies for reverse-engineering or validation purposes.
- Communicate with customers and internal teams to clarify project details or equipment requirements.
- Follow engineering workflow procedures for drawing creation, checking, approval, archiving, and release for fabrication.
- Assist team members with coordinated engineering tasks and shared projects.
- Perform engineering filing, data entry, and general documentation management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, spending 75% of time using it.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, spending 25% of time using it.
- Experience creating part drawings, assembly drawings, and fabrication drawings.
- Experience with steel fabrication drawings, typically 1/4 inch or more.
- Ability to use a tape measure accurately to check part dimensions.
- Attention to detail and a willingness to contribute in various areas.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 1-2 years experience with Autodesk Inventor.
- Associate's degree in drafting or equivalent.
- Experience working in a fabrication environment.
Work Environment
The work involves sitting at a desk in a personal workspace, focusing on tasks with minimal social interaction. Direction for daily tasks will be provided, and questions should be addressed proactively. Extra hours are required from October to March during the busy season. The role may involve up to 15% travel to customer sites for measurements. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
