KBR is looking for a  Site Mechanical Supervisor to be based in Basra, Iraq – Daily Commute

MAIN MISSIONS

- Ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality execution of all mechanical construction, installation, testing, and pre-commissioning activities at site.

- Supervise EPC Contractor and subcontractor mechanical works in accordance with approved drawings, project specifications, method statements, ITPs, applicable codes, vendor requirements, and COMPANY requirements.

- Coordinate mechanical activities with construction, engineering, QA/QC, HSE, commissioning, package vendors, and other disciplines to meet project schedule and system priorities.

- Identify technical, quality, safety, interface, and constructability issues, and drive their timely resolution and close-out.

- Support mechanical completion, preservation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and handover of mechanical systems and equipment.

KEY ACTIVITIES

Site Supervision and Construction Control

- Supervise daily installation of rotating equipment, static equipment, packaged units, tanks, vessels, piping, pipeline, pumps, compressors, turbines, filters, heat exchangers, chemical dosing equipment, lifting equipment, and associated auxiliaries.

- Monitor equipment receipt, storage, preservation, handling, lifting, positioning, levelling, alignment, grouting, bolting, coupling, lubrication, and final installation.

- Verify equipment location, orientation, elevations, access, maintainability, foundations, anchor bolts, supports, and interfaces against approved AFC drawings and vendor documentation.

- Supervise associated piping interfaces, including nozzle connections, strain control, flange alignment, supports, valves, temporary strainers, cleanliness, and reinstatement.

- Ensure work fronts are properly planned and required drawings, materials, tools, lifting plans, access, permits, vendor support, and preceding works are available.

- Monitor preservation and protection of installed equipment until handover, including periodic rotation, desiccants, lubrication, weather protection, and preservation records as applicable.

Technical Compliance and Quality

- Ensure execution complies with approved AFC drawings, specifications, equipment data sheets, vendor manuals, method statements, ITPs, and applicable international standards.

- Participate in inspection requests and witness required hold and witness points with QA/QC personnel and vendor representatives.

- Inspect equipment installation, alignment, levelling, soft-foot, grouting, bolting, lubrication, cleanliness, guards, supports, and general workmanship.

- Witness or review mechanical tests and checks, including hydrostatic and pneumatic tests where applicable, flushing, blowing, cleaning, leak tests, shaft alignment, rotation checks, vibration baseline checks, and functional testing.

- Review and follow up punch items, site observations, non-conformities, concessions, and corrective actions until closure.

- Assist in checking red-line mark-ups, inspection reports, test packs, preservation records, equipment dossiers, and as-built documentation.

Contractor Supervision and Progress

- Monitor contractor and subcontractor manpower, supervision, productivity, work quality, and compliance with the approved construction schedule.

- Review short-term work plans and report constraints, delays, interface issues, and recovery requirements to the Mechanical Superintendent or Construction Manager.

- Attend daily coordination meetings, site walkthroughs, progress reviews, toolbox talks, and technical meetings as required.

- Prepare clear daily and weekly reports covering progress, manpower, inspections, constraints, quality issues, HSE observations, and planned activities.

- Ensure personnel assigned to specialized mechanical activities are competent and appropriately qualified.

Interfaces, Completion and Commissioning

- Coordinate mechanical interfaces with civil, structural, piping, electrical, instrumentation, telecom, HVAC, process, package vendors, and commissioning teams.

- Ensure foundations, embedded items, access routes, lifting provisions, maintenance clearances, utilities, piping connections, and electrical and instrumentation interfaces are ready.

- Support systemization, mechanical completion checks, punch-listing, turnover dossier preparation, and handover by system or subsystem.

- Participate in readiness reviews before equipment start-up and ensure outstanding construction, quality, preservation, and safety items are controlled.

- Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, including vendor attendance, flushing, lubrication, solo runs, functional tests, performance checks, and troubleshooting.

HSE RESPONSIBILITY

- Ensure mechanical works comply with project HSE requirements, approved risk assessments, method statements, permit-to-work procedures, and isolation requirements.

- Pay particular attention to lifting and rigging, stored energy, pressure testing, rotating equipment, hot work, work at height, confined spaces, line breaking, and simultaneous operations.

- Intervene and stop unsafe work when necessary, report unsafe acts and conditions, and verify implementation of corrective measures.

- Participate in toolbox talks, safety walks, audits, incident investigations, and lessons-learned activities.

- Promote strong safety culture and good housekeeping in equipment areas, workshops, laydown areas, and mechanical work fronts.

Professional Experience

- More than 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical construction and site supervision on large EPC/EPSCC projects in oil and gas, power generation, water treatment, utilities, or major industrial facilities.

- Significant field experience supervising installation, alignment, testing, preservation, pre-commissioning, and handover of mechanical equipment and packages.

Experience in Similar Position

- Previous experience as Site Mechanical Supervisor, Mechanical Construction Supervisor, or equivalent position on a major project.

- Hands-on experience with rotating equipment, static equipment, piping, pipeline, packaged units, pumps, compressors, turbines, vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, lifting equipment, and associated auxiliaries.

- Experience in large pumping stations, power generation facilities, water treatment plants, or major utility systems is preferred.

- Experience on Middle East projects and/or remote construction sites is an advantage.

Technical Skills

- Strong knowledge of mechanical construction methods, equipment installation, alignment, grouting, preservation, inspection, testing, pre-commissioning, and completion processes.

- Ability to read and interpret equipment layouts, general arrangement drawings, foundation drawings, mechanical data sheets, P&IDs, piping isometrics, vendor drawings, installation manuals, and AFC documentation.

- Good understanding of mechanical interfaces with civil, structural, piping, electrical, instrumentation, HVAC, process, and package systems.

- Familiarity with ITP, RFI, NCR, punch-list, mechanical completion, turnover, preservation, and quality-record processes.

- Working knowledge of applicable API, ASME, ISO, ASTM, NFPA, and project-specific standards and requirements.

- Competence in reporting, progress monitoring, work-front planning, and standard office applications.

Level / Diploma

- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.

- A recognized technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering may be accepted with substantial relevant site experience.

- Relevant training in rotating equipment, alignment, lifting supervision, pressure testing, commissioning, or construction supervision is an advantage.

Languages

- Proficiency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
