DePuy Synthes create products that reconstruct diseased or damaged joints. These products change the lives of our patients and present unique and rewarding challenges for our engineering teams.
In this role, you'll support our Sterility Assurance team in helping ensure the safety and quality of medical implants and surgical instruments. Working alongside scientists, engineers, manufacturing teams, and external partners, you'll gain hands-on experience across the full product lifecycle, from design through to terminal sterilization.
You'll work on a variety of real-world projects, receive training and mentoring throughout the year, and have the opportunity to visit our Blackpool facility to broaden your experience and network.
How You'll Make an Impact:
- Supporting design engineers to develop instrumentation that meets cleaning and sterilization requirements.
- Supporting Sterility Assurance Sterilization/Contamination Control Programme.
- Performing tests to ensure product manufactured on site is clean and sterile (this includes water testing and environmental monitoring of the ISO Class 8 cleanrooms).
- Working with vendors and external laboratories.
- Collaborating with global teams across the USA and Ireland to implement innovative ideas, protocols, and processes.
What We're Looking For:
- Currently studying for a degree (predicted or achieved 2:1 or above ) in Medical Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, Microbiology, Bioengineering , or a related field.
- A curious and proactive mindset, with a genuine interest in healthcare, science, and medical technology.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and approach challenges confidently.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders.
- A keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and an eagerness to learn and develop.

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes.
