About the role
Love operating machinery? Make it your specialty.
This isn’t your typical all-round Vineyard Operator role.
You’ll join Vinarchy’s dedicated Machine Operations Team, where machine operation is at the heart of what you do.
Across our Marlborough vineyards, you’ll operate tractors, harvesters and specialist vineyard machinery, carrying out seasonal operations including spraying, trimming, mowing, defoliating and harvest activities.
If you like getting behind the controls, doing the job properly and seeing the results of your work at the end of the day, this could be the role for you.
This is a permanent opportunity to build real depth in machine operations, supported by experienced operators, training and clear operating procedures.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Machine Operations: Operate tractors, harvesters, ATVs and vineyard machinery safely and efficiently.
- Seasonal Operations: Carry out mowing, mulching, trimming, leaf plucking, compost spreading, post driving and harvest activities.
- Machine Care: Complete pre-start checks, basic preventative maintenance and seasonal machinery set-up.
- Quality & Safety: Take pride in doing the job properly, spotting issues and speaking up when something isn't right.
- Teamwork: Work closely with other operators, Team Leaders and our workshop team to keep the day's work moving.
- Continuous Improvement: Look for better ways of working and help the team deliver quality results.
These activities reflect the core operational accountabilities in the Machine Operator role description, including tractors, harvesters, ATVs, powered and towed implements, harvest activities and basic preventative maintenance.
What You’ll Bring:
We're more interested in finding good operators with the right foundations than someone who ticks every box.
You'll bring:
- Previous experience operating tractors, machinery or similar equipment
- Basic machinery knowledge and mechanical awareness
- A full, current New Zealand driver's licence
- A reputation for being reliable and doing what you say you'll do
- Good attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work
- A strong approach to safety
- The ability to work independently while still being part of the team
- Confidence following work plans and communicating when something doesn't look right
- Flexibility to work extended hours and shifts during harvest
Vineyard experience is preferred, but it isn't the only way in. If you have solid machinery experience from agriculture, horticulture or another relevant environment, we'd like to hear from you.
You don't need to know every piece of equipment from day one. Bring the basics and the right attitude to learning, and we'll help you build your capability.
Why Join Us?
Vinarchy is a home for passionate people to do their very best work. We believe in empowering our people and celebrating success.
For our Machine Operations Team, that means the opportunity to specialise in the work you enjoy, build your machinery capability and be part of the team responsible for getting some of Marlborough's most important vineyard operations done.
We offer:
- Annual wine allowance and exclusive wine specials
- Private health insurance, annual flu vaccinations and skin checks
- Onsite physio
- Vinarchy Birthday leave
- Long service leave
Like the sound of spending more of your day operating machinery? We'd like to hear from you.
At Vinarchy, we are dedicated to building a diverse, dynamic and inclusive culture. Prospective candidates will be required to provide proof of legal work rights and undertake relevant pre-employment screening to verify eligibility and suitability
