Our Underwriting Career Path Trainee Program is designed for ambitious graduates and early-career professionals who are ready to build a rewarding future in the insurance industry. Beginning in June 2027, this immersive development program provides hands-on training, mentorship, and real-world experience in underwriting, business development, risk evaluation, and agency relationship management.
As a trainee, you'll gain exposure to the core functions that drive Accident Fund's success while learning how to assess risk, develop pricing solutions, support agency partners, and contribute to profitable business growth. You'll collaborate with experienced professionals across multiple departments, build industry knowledge, and develop the technical and relationship-building skills needed to thrive in an underwriting career.
This program is more than a training opportunity. It's a launchpad for a long-term career. Participants who successfully complete the program will be prepared to move into a targeted underwriting position and continue growing within one of the nation's leading workers' compensation and commercial insurers.

RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS:
In a Learning Capacity:
- Learn and develop skills and competencies from performance of assigned duties.
- Learn and develop skills and competencies in the use of systems, software, and programs.
- Research and analyze information within the assigned area (Underwriting)
- Work on special projects as assigned.
- Compute and provide reports, attend company meetings, and provide feedback to the appropriate supervisor(s).
- Work with all internal departments to resolve problems and maintain company relations.
- Participate as necessary on special committees and task forces.
Underwriting:
- Calculates, prepares and develops premium quotations using corporate underwriting guidelines within letter of authority.
- Determines underwriting eligibility for prospective policyholders and develops appropriate pricing for new business, renewals, and endorsements.
- Analyzes and reviews prospective accounts for insurability and accepts or rejects within letter of authority.
- Supports agency relationships.
- Develops new business and retention of existing business in a given territory or region.
- Explains and emphasizes benefit of workers’ compensation insurance products and services to customers (agents and policyholders).
- Analyze accounts to determine exposure and proper pricing.
- Reviews loss trends and develops action plans to correct problem areas.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:
With proper education, no experience is required. One-year of relevant experience in an insurance environment or knowledge of workers' compensation or commercial insurance is desired.
EDUCATION:
- A Bachelor’s degree in related field required; or Associates in related field and certification (such as ARM, CPCU, AU) required.
- Continuous learning required, as defined by the Company’s learning philosophy.
- Certification, or progress toward, highly preferred and encouraged.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED:
- Ability to make efficient and effective decisions.
- Basic knowledge of workers compensation industry.
- Ability to function effectively in a multi-functional team environment.
- Ability to learn and be proficient with computers and company standard software specific to the position.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create and maintain mutually beneficial relationships.
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to comprehend consequences of various situations and make appropriate individuals aware when making decisions.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to relocate, if required by business need.
- Ability to perform other assignments at locations outside of the office.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed primarily in the office and occasionally in the field ( may be required to visit customer locations ) with minimal hazards. Minimal travel is required with occasional overnight stays. Must possess a valid driver's license with a record that meets corporate standards.
Pay Range
Actual compensation decision relies on the consideration of internal equity, candidate’s skills and professional experience, geographic location, market and other potential factors. It is not standard practice for an offer to be at or near the top of the range, and therefore a reasonable estimate for this role is between $49,300 and $69,600.
