SUMMARY
The Underwriting Support Specialist II is a key member of Century Insurance Group's Environmental Division , providing underwriting and policy administration support for a specialized portfolio of environmental insurance products. This role is responsible for the timely and accurate issuance of policies, endorsements, and related documentation, while serving as a primary point of contact for agents and internal stakeholders. The position helps ensure exceptional service, operational efficiency, and strong agency relationships, while also mentoring less-experienced team members and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Process and issue new business, renewals, endorsements, cancellations, and policy-related transactions accurately and timely in accordance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Review applications, bind requests, inspections, and underwriting documentation for completeness, accuracy, and discrepancies; obtain missing information and coordinate with underwriters as needed.
- Provide underwriting support within delegated authority, including rating new and renewal business, processing endorsements, and referring exceptions or complex risks to the appropriate underwriter.
- Maintain policy files, documentation, diaries, follow-ups, and account records to ensure complete and accurate underwriting files.
- Serve as a first point of contact for agents and internal stakeholders, responding to inquiries and supporting policy maintenance activities.
- Manage the renewal process by gathering required exposure, loss, and account information to support underwriting decisions.
- Support billing inquiries and assist in resolving policy and billing discrepancies.
- Monitor and process incoming correspondence, email queues, reports, and regulatory or bureau-related communications to ensure timely follow-up and compliance.
- Prepare reports, loss runs, account summaries, and other materials to support underwriters, agents, and renewal review activities.
- Participate in team projects and process improvement initiatives while providing guidance and support to less experienced team members.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Relevant combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- High school diploma or G.E.D required. Additional college and/or insurance related course study is desirable.
- Continuous learning, as defined by the Company’s learning philosophy, is required. Certification or progress toward certification is highly preferred and encouraged.
- Two (2) years of commercial property and casualty underwriting support experience, preferably in a multi-state, multi-bureau environment.
- Previous regulatory compliance experience preferred.

- Technical competence and experience with policy/rating systems

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in an office setting with no unusual hazards. This role begins with daily in office presence in Westerville, OH, for training and then transitions to a hybrid arrangement with minimum one day a week in office and as directed by manager.
Pay Range - Actual compensation decision relies on the consideration of internal equity, candidate’s skills and professional experience, geographic location, market, and other potential factors. It is not standard practice for an offer to be at or near the top of the range, and therefore a reasonable estimate for this role is between $39,100 and $65,000.
