Job Description:
Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and operational leader to lead Compound Logistics at our Beerse, Belgium site, driving the management, distribution, and growth of Johnson & Johnson's global small molecule collection. The successful candidate will partner across the global Compound Logistics network, Discovery Technologies & Molecular Pharmacology (DTMP), R&D organizations, and external collaborators to ensure reliable compound access for research programs worldwide, advance operational excellence through automation and continuous improvement, and deliver scalable capabilities that accelerate drug discovery.
Key Responsibilities:
Compound Logistics Operations
- Lead the end-to-end Compound Logistics capability in Beerse, ensuring reliable compound inventory, storage, distribution, and fulfillment across the global R&D network
- Manage operational capacity, infrastructure, budgets, and resources to deliver scalable, compliant, and high-quality services that support global discovery programs
Operational Excellence & Automation
- Drive operational excellence through automation, digital technologies, analytics, and process optimization to improve productivity, quality, scalability, and customer experience
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement through Lean methodologies, data-driven decision making, and operational performance management
Strategic Partnerships & Global Collaboration
- Build strong partnerships across Biology, Chemistry, Screening, Informatics, Procurement, and external collaborators to align operations with evolving discovery priorities
- Represent Beerse Compound Logistics in global initiatives and communicate performance, risks, opportunities, and strategic recommendations to leadership
People Leadership
- Develop, and lead a high-performing team while fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and accountable culture grounded in safety, quality, and innovation
- Build organizational capability through coaching, talent development, and performance management
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Life Sciences, Engineering, Chemistry, Supply Chain, or a related discipline
Required Experience & Skills
- 8+ years of experience in compound logistics, sample management, laboratory automation, scientific operations, supply chain, or a related field
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and complex operational environments
- Experience aligning local operations with global organizational priorities within a matrixed environment
- Demonstrated success driving operational excellence through Lean methodologies, process optimization, automation, and performance management
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills across scientific, technical, and business functions
- Experience managing budgets, resources, and operational planning
Preferred Experience
- Experience with automated sample management systems, laboratory automation, and robotics
- Knowledge of compound registration, inventory management, sample fulfillment, and global logistics processes
- Deep understanding of compound management and discovery support operations within a pharmaceutical R&D environment
- Experience leading digital transformation or operational modernization initiatives
- Familiarity with data analytics, digital operations, and AI-enabled scientific workflows

The anticipated base pay range for this position is:
€96 000,00 - €165 025,00

In addition to base pay, we offer the following benefits*: an annual bonus with set target (% of pay) depending on pay grade / location, where the actual amount is based on the employees’ and companies’ performance of the previous calendar year, or sales commissions.
