Our challenge
We are seeking an experienced Dremio Engineer to support the build, operation, and evolution of the Wells Fargo Dremio platform. The engineer will be responsible for deploying and supporting Dremio environments, troubleshooting platform and user issues, conducting proof‑of‑concepts (POCs) for new features and product capabilities, and supporting both modern and legacy data platforms.
Additional Information*
The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Charlotte, NC is $110k - $115k/year & benefits (see below).
The Role
Responsibilities:
- Dremio Platform Engineering
- Build, configure, and manage Dremio instances in OpenShift (current version 26.x).
- Support platform upgrades, patching, configuration tuning, and capacity planning.
- Ensure high availability, performance, and stability of Dremio environments.
- Operations & Support
- Troubleshoot Dremio-related issues across infrastructure, connectivity, performance, and security layers.
- Provide L2/L3 support for user queries, failures, and data access issues.
- Analyze logs, query plans, and system metrics to identify and resolve root causes.
- POCs & Innovation
- Execute proof‑of‑concepts (POCs) for new Dremio features and product capabilities.
- Evaluate enhancements related to query acceleration, reflections, governance, and security.
- Partner with architecture and product teams to validate new use cases and platform improvements.
- Legacy Environment Support
- Support legacy EDL environments running on:
- MapR
- Cloudera
- Hortonworks
- Troubleshoot integration issues between legacy data platforms and Dremio.
- Assist with migration activities and coexistence strategies.
- Collaboration & Documentation
- Work closely with data engineers, platform teams, and business users.
- Create and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides.
- Provide knowledge transfer and best practices to internal teams.
Requirements:
- Strong hands-on experience with Dremio administration and troubleshooting
- Experience deploying and supporting Dremio on Kubernetes / OpenShift
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, query engines, and data virtualization
- Experience with Hadoop ecosystem tools (HDFS, Hive, Impala, Spark)
- Hands-on exposure to MapR, Cloudera, and Hortonworks platforms
- Proficiency in Linux, shell scripting, and log analysis
- Strong understanding of data access, security, and governance concepts
Preferred, but not required:
- Experience with cloud‑native data platforms
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows
- Knowledge of performance tuning for large‑scale analytical workloads
- Experience supporting enterprise data platforms in regulated environments
