About this role

About the Role

This is a project-based internship. Rather than generalized administrative tasks, you will be assigned a core technical project to own from start to finish. This role offers hands-on experience, culminating in an end-of-program presentation to technical leadership.

The intern will support the research, design, and proposal of a structured community engagement playbook targeting Nye and Clark counties. The intern will gain hands-on experience in sustainability, public affairs strategy, stakeholder mapping, and event execution within the heavy industrial/mining sector.

Key Responsibilities

- Take ownership of a dedicated 12-week project, managing timelines, and delivering a final technical report and presentation .

- Stakeholder Research & Mapping: Research local community needs, civic groups, and potential partnership avenues, consolidating them into a centralized stakeholder tracking matrix.

- Event Coordination: Assist with the planning, logistics, and vendor relations for local community events, sponsorships, and town halls.

- External Communications: Draft community-facing materials, fact sheets, and content for regional newsletters to support the Director's government and community affairs strategy.

- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

- Currently enrolled as a rising senior in an Undergraduate program pursuing a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, Public Administration, Sustainability, or Business, or a closely related field.

- Prior experience in event planning, community volunteering, student government, or local grassroots campaigning. Familiarity with the rural Nevada cultural and political landscape is a strong plus.

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; high proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); strong organizational and research capabilities.

- A collaborative mindset with an eagerness to learn and proactively ask questions.

- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

- Valid driver’s license required; Routine travel between Las Vegas and Beatty is required.

Fall Recruitment Timeline & Hiring Milestones

September 15 – October 30, 2026 (Application Review): Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Early submission is highly encouraged.

Successful applicants will move to a virtual interview with the internship program manager.

October 12 – November 6, 2026 (Final Rounds): Finalists are invited to a virtual hiring manager interview.

November 16 – 20, 2026 (Offers Extended): Final hiring decisions and official offer letters will be extended before the winter university break.
