Seed Production Research Assistant

We are looking for a Seed Production Research Assistant to drive the operational backbone of our indoor protected-culture plant breeding operations within our Camelina R&D seed breeding program. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the next generation of camelina products.

This is a permanent, full-time position, based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the LFK biotechnology lab facility (Innovation Saskatchewan).

What you will do:

- Manage the day-to-day organization and maintenance of growth room projects including, but not limited to seeding, tissue sampling, transplanting, self & cross pollinating, harvesting & threshing
- Manage general plant care and maintenance of growth rooms
- Identify and report issues that may arise with facility, equipment or with plant health including need to control pests or diseases in growth rooms
- Efficiently & effectively carryout all detailed record keeping and other technical objectives
- Maintain tidiness & orderliness within the workplace
- Supervise and train temporary employees as required
- Work closely with other research staff to coordinate and implement process improvements
- Participate in task-related data collection, document creation and process review for job-related activities
- Aid with seed set up for field nursery and yield trials
- Aid with note taking, plant collections, and hand harvesting activities in field locations as needed
- Comply and maintain Health Safety and Environment (HSE), Quality Management System (QMS) and Compliance programs at Bayer.

- Foster an inclusive environment of professionalism and safe working practices ensuring Safety and Compliance requirements are met or exceeded within Squad.

Who you are:

- Degree or diploma in agricultural science, biological science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong knowledge of crop production or growth room/greenhouse production methodologies
- Ability to manage the physical demands of the role, including watering, plant care, and growth room maintenance.
- Willingness to work in varied weather conditions (cool or warm) when needed.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
- Availability to work overtime during the week and on weekends when necessary.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.
- Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to prioritize daily tasks effectively.
- Highly motivated and results-oriented, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team to drive outcomes.
- Comfortable with change and quick to learn new procedures.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely.
- Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Additional skills & experience is preferred:

- Previous experience in Camelina and/or plant breeding

The base salary range for this role is between $47,200 and $70,800.  Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive compensation. Additional benefits may include insured benefits such as health care, vision, dental, disability, and contributory retirement savings plans, etc.

This salary range is an estimate and may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, market data and the applicant’s skills, prior relevant experience, job-related knowledge, specific degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
