Summary:
Responsible for managing the value analysis process for a specific product portfolio (medical, surgical, non-medical) with the goal of providing high quality, safe, patient-centered and cost effective products, services, and technology. This position is responsible for an annual savings goal, typically above $1M. This process requires the establishment and adherence to a streamlined method of standardizing and monitoring products, services and technology selection, utilization and costs. This individual provides clinical and strategic expertise that facilitates supply expense management while continuously improving quality, patient safety and satisfaction, through clinical and non-clinical engagement. This individual serves as a facilitator and educator of the value analysis process. This individual works strategically and tactically to identify, analyze, decide and implement best practices and expense management initiatives. This position will lead and collaborate across the CHST system with Managers, Directors, and Senior Administration and Physician Leadership in identifying and implementing cost reduction, evaluation, standardization and process improvement initiatives. This position will be responsible for validating assumptions using evidence based research when appropriate.
Responsibilities:
* Leads a Value Analysis Team (VAT), project teams and general project management activity for specified portfolio (i.e. medical, surgical, non-medical).
* Develops strategies and processes for reducing supply expense in relation to product, service and process consumption through standardization and utilization, using evidence based data, benchmarked best practices and data driven analysis.
* Identifies opportunities for product compression and increased product quality for improved patient outcomes and is responsible for presenting and evaluating those opportunities as well as implementing those that are approved.
* Gathers product or service information to support value analysis committees i.e. samples, data, white papers to help determine best practice for clinical and financial goals.
* Ensures that all product, service and process trials and evaluations are unbiased and conducted in a professional manner, as well as documenting results of the trials and communicating those results.
* Performs cost-benefit, cost-effectiveness, cost-minimization and cost-efficiency analysis, verifying accuracy and completeness of all cost analyses that may impact product, service and process related expenditures.
* Maintains record of documented cost savings and implemented process improvement initiatives achieved through value analysis process specific to their assigned portfolio.
* Collaborates with clinical and non-clinical leadership to communicate product changes, product recalls, product shortages and educational needs. Serves as the liaison between outside vendors and clinical and non-clinical staff.
* Consults with clinical and non-clinical leadership to facilitate new technology research and assessment, evaluations, cost impact analytics, and conversions to support utilization and/or standardization opportunities.
* Evaluates supplier and end user product performance through review of usage reports, business meetings and customer feedback; resolves issues and implements solutions to address negative performance.
* Conducts and participates in contract negotiations with vendor candidates, includes end users and clinical staff, to ensure appropriateness of criteria is inclusive and beneficial to the organization.
* Interacts with those directly involved with patient care to ensure appropriate feedback is received before product decisions are made.
* Reviews and identifies trends in product utilization by organization to identify any practice changes, areas of cost savings opportunity as well as process improvement.
* Accountable for achieving annual non-labor cost savings targets, typically above $1M.
* Retrieves products and collects issue data related to patient safety events and recalls to ensure communications occur with internal clinical staff and leadership as well as vendor so that a resolution can be determined, which might mean converting even temporarily to another product.
* Requires regular interaction with physician leadership and Children's senior leaders as well as business leaders such as Group Purchasing Organization and CHA leadership to determine next steps in utilization, cost controls, or product issues.
WORK EXPERIENCE
* At least 5 years Relevant experience in healthcare nursing and/or value analysis Req
* Must have significant ability to utilize spreadsheets; excel; and other databases Req
* Strong presentation skills Pref
* Experience in cost containment and expense management activities Pref
* Supply chain management, sourcing, contracting or project management related experience Pref
* Ability to interact with C Suite and other senior leadership as well as manage relationships with vendors Pref
EDUCATION
* Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Req
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
* AHVAP (Value Analysis Professional) certification within 3 years and 6 months of employment Req
* RN or similar clinical certification Req
