As part of Chewy's SmartPak business, Chewy is seeking an Automated Lead Maintenance Technician to support the reliability, maintenance, and continuous improvement of automated material handling systems, facility infrastructure, and production equipment at our Plymouth, Massachusetts operation.

This is a non-exempt (hourly), onsite individual contributor role that serves as the senior technical resource on shift. While this position does not have direct supervisory responsibility, it provides technical leadership, mentors Maintenance Technicians, assists with work

prioritization, and partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, and Facilities leadership to maximize equipment reliability and operational performance.

The successful candidate will combine advanced troubleshooting skills, strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, and a continuous improvement mindset to support SmartPak's warehouse, production, fulfillment, and automated systems.

What You’ll Do:

- Perform advanced preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on automated material handling equipment, conveyor systems, AutoStore automation, production equipment, and facility infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control system failures to quickly restore equipment to service.
- Serve as the primary technical resource for Maintenance Technicians by providing guidance, coaching, and technical support during complex repairs and troubleshooting activities.
- Mentor and develop less experienced technicians through hands-on training, knowledge sharing, and demonstration of maintenance best practices.
- Support preventive maintenance planning and execute reliability-centered maintenance activities to improve equipment uptime and reduce recurring failures.
- Perform root cause analysis on equipment failures and recommend corrective actions that improve long -term reliability.
- Troubleshoot motors, VFDs, sensors, encoders, photo eyes, relays, proximity switches, motor starters, and associated control devices.
- Support troubleshooting of PLC-controlled equipment and automated systems while partnering with engineering resources when necessary.
- Maintain AutoStore robotic systems through inspections, preventive maintenance, cleaning, calibration, and troubleshooting activities.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, technical manuals, and equipment documentation.
- Utilize CMMS software to accurately document work orders, labor, downtime, corrective actions, and parts usage.
- Support installation, startup, modification, and commissioning of new equipment and facility improvement projects.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with Operations to minimize production downtime while maintaining a safe work environment.
- Assist with contractor coordination and validate completed work meets SmartPak quality and safety expectations.
- Follow all OSHA requirements, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Arc Flash, confined space, and established safety procedures.
- Maintain maintenance tools, spare parts, work areas, and equipment in a clean and organized condition.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintenance processes, safety, and operational efficiency.
- Develop positive working relationships across Operations, Facilities, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, Quality, and vendor partners.
- Complete maintenance documentation, work orders, inspections, and administrative requirements accurately and on time.
- May occasionally operate a company vehicle to support facility operations, transport materials or equipment between locations, coordinate vendor or project activities, or respond to operational needs as required.

What You’ll Need:

- High school diploma or GED.
- 5+ years of industrial maintenance, facilities maintenance, manufacturing, automation, fulfillment, or related technical experience.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting automated material handling equipment, conveyor systems, production equipment, or industrial machinery.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, motors, controls, pneumatics, mechanical systems, and preventive maintenance practices.
- Experience reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.
- Experience utilizing CMMS or computerized maintenance management systems.
- Working knowledge of PLC troubleshooting and industrial control systems.
- Ability to prioritize multiple work assignments while responding effectively to changing operational priorities.
- Ability to mentor, coach, and provide technical leadership to fellow Maintenance Technicians.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem        -solving skills.
- Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, climb ladders, work at heights, bend, kneel, crawl, and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Ability to work a scheduled onsite shift and perform the essential functions of the role at the Plymouth, MA facility.

Bonus:

- Technical degree or vocational certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, Automation, or a related field.
- Experience supporting AutoStore automation systems.
- Experience with conveyor systems, sortation equipment, and automated warehouse technologies.
- Experience troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and industrial control systems.
- Experience with robotics or automated manufacturing equipment.
- Experience leading maintenance projects or mentoring technicians.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, or Reliability -Centered Maintenance (RCM).
- Forklift, scissor lift, or aerial lift certification.
- Experience working in warehouse, fulfillment, manufacturing, or production environments.

The hourly range for this role is $36.53 - $54.80.
