ROLE SUMMARY
The purpose of the Animal Care Apprentice is to assist the Animal Care & Welfare team with the daily encounters, activities, cleaning, and husbandry procedures. Assists in the efficiency of daily operations, maintenance, and safety in the Aquarium, Encounter and March areas. Always ensure highest customer service.
ROLE PROFILE
- Support daily feeding routines and assist in training animals.
- Help monitor animal behavior and visitor safety during public demonstrations.
- Contribute to animal care tasks, including habitat maintenance and diet preparation.
- Maintain and set up animal holding areas and presentation spaces.
- Track inventory levels and report shortages to senior staff
- Assist in supervised animal encounters and related activities.
- Participate in safety briefings to ensure well-being of guests and animals.
- Engage with visitors through effective communication and public presentations.
REQUIREMENTS
- Certificate/diploma in animal care or a related field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
- 0–1 year of experience in animal care and welfare.
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg, carry materials, and perform physically demanding tasks in cold environments.
- Basic knowledge of animal behavior and familiarity with LSS concepts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel with a good educational background.
- Passionate, presentable, and able to communicate effectively with the public.
