About this role

Job Summary

Supports the Laboratory Coordinator and serves as a qualified backup for laboratory operations. Independently performs assigned microbiological and basic chemistry testing, maintains accurate laboratory and COA records, enters and reviews data, reports results, and schedules samples to meet production and customer requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Use approved microbiological techniques and methods consistent with documented training; participate in AOAC proficiency testing and complete required documentation.

- Collect, prepare, test, retain, and dispose of samples according to approved procedures. Perform assigned microbiological and chemistry testing, including titrations, density, moisture, and pH.

- Maintain and review accurate laboratory data and COA records in the appropriate database. Report results to management weekly and immediately report unusual or out-of-specification results for evaluation and corrective action.

- Maintain efficient laboratory workflow and sample scheduling. Respond to customer inquiries about COAs and laboratory information; identify and report errors involving COAs, laboratory data, and product shipments.

- Understand eBacMap and serve as a backup user. Perform or document equipment calibrations, verifications, and routine laboratory checks.

- Maintain laboratory supplies, media, reagents, inventory, housekeeping, and waste disposal according to established procedures.

- Follow applicable food safety, legal, quality, process control, and laboratory policies and regulations. Complete assigned BRCGS, customer, and internal audits and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Previous laboratory experience is preferred, including basic microbiological and chemistry testing such as titrations, density, moisture, and pH.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Good Microsoft Office skills and attention to detail. Above-average verbal and written communication with internal and external stakeholders. Knowledge of federal and state laws governing safe food production.

Physical Demands

Vision sufficient for detailed microbiology work and use of laboratory equipment. Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods, climb ladders, work from elevated platforms, wear required PPE, and work extended or unusual shifts as needed.

Work Environment

Office and laboratory settings and plant areas with exposure to moving machinery, powered lift equipment, hot and cold surfaces, confined spaces, and product dust.
