The Role
The Head of CSPI is a critical enterprise leader for R&D, leading for consumer first always in everything we do. Working with category and OU teams across the enterprise, the role ensures that we create, develop, deliver and review our innovations and portfolio of products to ensure they win with consumers at the point of purchase and in use, deliver meaningful and noticeable superiority that drives growth across Oral Health, OTC and Wellness.
This role is also responsible in elevating the consumer centricity mindset in everything we do across the R&D community, across categories and OUs, and across the different R&D disciplines – Claims, Technology, Concept, Process, etc.
Key Responsibilities
- Transform the R&D Consumer Understanding Capabilities including qualitative and quantitative methodologies as drivers of liking and drivers of brand differentiation elements, early consumer ethnography, product stories, consumer claims, demos and visuals development, etc. Connect learnings with product design targets (from consumer desires to specifications) to design for superiority.
- Connect R&D Consumer Understanding Capabilities with Digital/AI maximizing the use of digital personas and data analytics to accelerate access and depth of consumer understanding.
- Elevate Haleon’s competitive understanding across Categories and OUs determining when and how testing, analytics or synthesis should be deployed to inform product, portfolio and communication decisions. Guarantee a close understanding of the competitive performance and claims in every market/category we compete.
- Drive a shared understanding of Innovation Fundamentals across the R&D organization (not only CSPI) including but not exclusively ideal product, Points of Difference, Points of Parity, from consumer delights to specifications, Understanding of the Brand equity desired/perceived gap, Concept and Product Drivers. As result, the CSPI will deliver clear guidance on product the attribute specifications that will deliver meaningful and noticeable superior products.
- Talent Development . Manage the CSPI organization elevating engagement and capabilities and guarantee the proper talent progression. Identify the source of talent for CSPI /R&D.

- Experienced in dealing with multiple business priorities & categories – turning complexity into simple actions that drive our business.
- Has clear experience in driving novel methodologies of consumer sciences , driving knowledge that is actionable.
- Can lead the thinking and evidence that underpin product, portfolio and communication decisions, putting the consumer first to influence outcomes.
- High data capability and fluidity – Uses and understands the latest techniques to ensure we are data led in our choices and decisions.
- Proven capability understanding consumers and identifying insights that translate into business opportunities.
Qualifications and Skills
- BSc degree or equivalent in a field with statistical background (Engineering, Sciences).
- >10 years Industry experience within a large FMCG / CPG business in an appropriate / associated function.
