The information below reflects the standard job description for this position:
Researches, plans, designs, develops, and tests optical elements including lenses, filters, beamsplitters, reflective, and diffractive elements in mechanical structures, assemblies, mechanisms, and fixtures that allow optical systems to meet performance and operational requirements.Designs precision components and mechanisms to enclose, retain, and maintain alignment of optical elements within system tolerance specifications. Selects materials based on optical alignment tolerances, manufacturing tolerances, induced environments, and ergonomic requirements. Leads or produces design documentation packages for suppliers which consists of optical and mechanical drawings with specification, tolerance, and special process steps. Generate requirements, specifications, performance budgets, build and test procedures, verification plans, and operating manuals.
Basic Qualifications
* Experience with standard design tools applied to Opto-Mechanical design from among CREO, NASTRAN/NX, MATLAB, Solidworks, CATIA, ZEMAX or similar.
* Experience with engineering drawing creation and release in a Product Data Management/Product Lifecycle Management system such as Windchill, SolidWorks PDM or similar
* 1+ years of experience as a design engineer with a background in optical, optics, lasers, imagers or other relevant area.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security clearance; US Citizenship required.
Desired Skills
* Bachelors or advance degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Optical Sciences, or related field.
* Experience in the aerospace and/or defense industry.
* Prior industry experience with Electro-Optical systems.
* Familiarity with Structural and/or Thermal analysis tools such as NASTRAN, Thermal Desktop or similar.
* Familiarity with STOP analysis.
* Familiarity with design for assembly and manufacturing techniques.
* Active Top Secret Clearance
* Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $91200.00 - $169400.00

Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
