Robot Operator

Sigma Design has collaborated with a technology company seeking an experienced Robot Operator to join their facility in Burlingame, CA. This company focuses on AI and advanced computing technologies. This position is contract to hire and is In-Office

Primary Function:
The Robot Operator is responsible for operating robotic systems to collect high-quality demonstration data used to train AI and robotics models. This role performs a variety of hands-on robotic tasks while maintaining a high level of consistency, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
- Operate and teleoperate robotic arms using control systems, including motion-based controls and handheld controllers
- Perform a variety of robotic tasks ranging from simple pick-and-place, folding, sorting, and packing to more complex assembly processes
- Consistently meet established data collection volume and quality targets while maintaining attention to detail
- Review and annotate footage of robot task performance, identify quality issues, and provide feedback to improve data collection
- Assist with equipment setup and other basic on-floor tasks as needed
- Contribute ideas and feedback to improve data collection processes and overall operational efficiency
- Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences
Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive, precision-focused work
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment
- Interest in AI, robotics, automation, or emerging technology
- Manufacturing, assembly, laboratory, robotics, or other hands-on technical experience preferred
- Experience with gaming, simulation, or handheld controllers is a plus
- ITAR - Permanent resident of the United States (“U.S. person” as defined by ITAR)
- Background - Pass a post-offer background verification.
Work Environment
Standard lab/production environment. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients, or suppliers. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
