About this role
Network Engineering Team Lead
Wilmington, DE
Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Remote
The Network Engineering Team Lead (Cloud) leads a team of network engineers responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining the organization's cloud and hybrid network infrastructure. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, ensuring network reliability, scalability, and security across multi-cloud and on-premises environments while mentoring engineers and driving process improvement.
Some of the things that you’ll be doing:
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of cloud network engineers, including performance management, scheduling, and career development.
- Assign and prioritize project work, incident response, and on-call rotations.
- Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, and support hiring/onboarding of team members.
Cloud Network Architecture & Engineering
- Design and oversee implementation of secure, scalable network architectures primarily in Azure (VPCs/VNets, subnets, peering, transit gateways, load balancers).
- Manage hybrid connectivity solutions (VPN, Direct Connect, ExpressRoute, SD-WAN).
- Own network segmentation, routing, DNS, and firewall policy design in cloud environments.
Operations & Reliability
- Ensure high availability and performance of cloud network infrastructure; lead incident response and root-cause analysis for network outages.
- Establish and monitor SLAs/SLOs for network performance and uptime.
- Drive automation of network provisioning and configuration management.
- Drive Elastic Observability implementation.
Security & Compliance
- Partner with security teams to enforce network security best practices (zero trust, micro-segmentation, encryption in transit).
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, PCI-DSS as applicable).
- Support audits and vulnerability remediation efforts related to network infrastructure.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Cloud, DevOps, Security, and application teams to support infrastructure and deployment needs.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex network issues.
- Communicate network strategy, risks, and roadmap to IT leadership

- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure networking , including VNets, subnets, peering, routing, load balancing, network security groups, Azure Firewall, DNS, and related cloud networking services.
- Proven experience designing and managing hybrid cloud connectivity , including VPN, ExpressRoute, SD-WAN, and connectivity between cloud and on-premises environments.
- Strong understanding of core networking concepts and technologies, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, network segmentation, VPNs, and load balancing.
- Experience with network security and zero-trust principles , including segmentation, encryption, firewall policy, identity-based access, and vulnerability remediation.
- Experience with network automation and infrastructure as code , using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, Python, or similar technologies.
- Experience with network monitoring and observability , including implementing or supporting tools such as Elastic Observability, Azure Monitor, or comparable platforms.
- Demonstrated experience leading incident response, troubleshooting complex network issues, performing root-cause analysis, and driving remediation in high-availability environments.
- Experience working cross-functionally with Cloud, DevOps, Security, and application teams, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts and risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in environments subject to security, compliance, and regulatory requirements such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, or PCI-DSS .
