Department Overview
Welcome to Electric Asset Strategy (EAS). We are responsible for the Distribution electric system’s asset strategy, standards, procedures and end-to-end risk management for 2.3 million structures. We deliver a risk informed strategic plan, leveraging inspection insights and asset data to drive strategic maintenance and investment decisions.
The Distribution Asset Risk Management (ARM) team—comprising Asset Failure Analysis (AFA), Asset Insights, and Inspections & Maintenance Strategy (I&M)—focuses on continuously improving on how PG&E monitors and maintains its assets to support a resilient, reliable grid to help keep our communities safe.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of ARM, the Principal Program Manager will ensure the enterprise data, analytics, and technology initiatives ARM depends on deliver what our teams need to make decisions more effectively and efficiently. This role collaborates extensively across the company to translate ARM’s needs into clear requirements, shape enterprise initiatives early, and integrate the resulting capabilities into ARM’s core workflows. The role will also facilitate the team’s adoption and proficiency with enterprise AI/ML tools and, working closely with ARM’s Principal Program Manager for Advanced Technology, lead the integration and scaling of new technologies once they have been successfully tested and piloted.
The I&M team plays a critical role in managing 80,000 circuit miles of overhead primary conductors in California. We are continually improving on inspection and asset maintenance methods and procedures based on testing insights, failure analysis, and SME input. The successful candidate will serve as a strategic integrator and champion for ARM’s needs across the enterprise to deliver several transformative initiatives.
• ARM Data & AI/ML Strategy: Develop and maintain ARM’s asset data strategy, including the data foundations, quality, and governance needed to support risk-informed decisions. Define what ARM’s data and workflows need to be AI/ML-ready, and guide how enterprise AI/ML capabilities are applied to ARM’s challenges.
• I&M Decision Support: Improve data product tooling that leads to improved prioritization and bundling of maintenance work to maximize risk reduction per dollar.
• AI/ML Capability Building: Coach ARM team members, one-on-one and as a group, to get the most from enterprise AI/ML tools such as Copilot and Foundry AIP. Identify high-value use cases and drive adoption to improve team efficiency and effectiveness.
• Asset Knowledge Product Development: Liaise with Asset Knowledge Management (AKM), PG&E’s enterprise team for asset data products and analytics, and the Data Management & Analytics team to guide development and adoption of analytics tools and data visualization products that support ARM decision-making.
• Propel Integration: Partner with the enterprise Propel program that is rebuilding PG&E’s backend data infrastructure. Engage early to shape requirements, design choices, and data definitions so today’s key pain points are addressed in the build, then lead system adoption and integration.
This is a hybrid role, working remotely and/or at your assigned PG&E location based on business needs and candidate preference. The ideal candidate is a data savvy leader who thrives in fast paced environments and seeks to make a meaningful impact on grid safety, resilience, and customer service. Conference travel may be required several times per year.
