Department Overview

Gas Operations oversees the natural gas transmission and distribution operations. The team maintains and operates 6,700 miles of gas transmission pipeline, 43,000 miles of distribution main, 3.6 million gas services, three PG&E-owned storage facilities with 102 BCF capacity, nine compressor stations with 175K HP, and 5,000 measurement and control facilities. Gas Operations is comprised of approximately 6,000 coworkers. The Gas Qualifications Department is under Gas Operations and oversees the DOT required Operator Qualifications program.

Position Summary

Conducts Operator Qualification (OQ) evaluations for employees in designated technical roles to verify skill proficiency and uphold both public and employee safety. Oversee the facilitation and administration of a variety of exams and assessments to ensure Gas Operations personnel are performing covered tasks accurately and safely in compliance with company standards and procedures.

Location flexible between San Ramon, Daly City, Oakland, Petaluma or San Jose headquarters.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

Position duties may include but are not limited to-

• Proctors Gas OQ evaluations per PG&E’s standards and procedures. Qualification evaluations will focus on the knowledge, skills, and ability for natural gas related covered tasks. Work may involve cutting, grinding, and use of hydraulic press to perform destructive testing of plastic fusions.
• Evaluates the execution and administration of initial and follow up complex, non routine exams—including written and computer based qualification exams, as well as field evaluations—to verify knowledge, skills, ability, and the ability to recognize abnormal operating conditions (AOC).
• Evaluates the preparation of employees for the entire qualification process, both written/computer examinations and field observations, through effective communication and tail boarding. Ensure employees understand the purpose and process.
• Addresses gaps and issues are identified to improve evaluations, tools, processes, and/or materials.
• Ensures the evaluation/qualification processes are followed and qualification records are maintained in compliance with qualification program requirements.
• Contributes to the enhancement of new evaluation/qualification exams and processes. Collaborate with stakeholder groups to ensure appropriate process/asset recommendations are being implemented and maintained.
• Mentors less experienced team members.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from:

Bay Area Minimum: $50.48

Bay Area Maximum: $81.25

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Job Responsibilities

• Proctors Gas OQ evaluations per Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 49.192 (N) and GO112. Qualification evaluations will focus on a specific area of skill/knowledge including, but not limited to, leak survey and l locate & mark, plastic, or measurement and regulation. Work may involve cutting, grinding, and use of hydraulic press to perform destructive testing of plastic fusion coupons.
• Coaches the performance and administration of initial and subsequent complex and non-routine evaluations, written or computer-based qualification tests and field observations of knowledge and skills including new and/or difficult skills and techniques, working independently.
• Coaches the preparation of employees for the entire qualification process, both written/computer testing and field observation, through effective communication and tail boarding. Ensures employees understand the purpose and process.
• Shares outcomes, observations, trends, gaps and issues with direct supervisor, the employee’s supervisor and/or manager that contribute to the development and implementation of mitigating strategies as needed.
• Addresses gaps and issues identified to improve evaluations, coaching tools, process, and/or materials.
• Ensures the evaluation/qualification processes are followed and qualification records are maintained in compliance with qualification program requirements.
• Contributes to the enhancement of new evaluation/qualification tests and processes. Collaborates with stakeholder groups to ensure appropriate process/asset recommendations are being implemented and maintained.
• Coaches less experienced team members

Qualifications-

Minimum:

• High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
• 5 years of experience in respective technical trade
• Ability to travel up to 80 percent of work schedule.
• Ability to lift up to 80lbs

Desired:

• BA/BS degree in engineering or other technical discipline, or equivalent experience
• Strong knowledge in technical discipline for which incumbent is providing evaluations
• Thorough understanding of specific work methods and procedures, including all safety practices.
• Customer service skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to effectively coach and provide feedback.
• Leadership and collaboration skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP skills.
