About this role
Are you caring, organized, and experienced in Foster Care? We are seeking a full-time Case Manager to provide high-quality and compassionate service to clients in Washtenaw and surrounding counties. The Foster Care Case Manager is responsible for case management services to neglected/abused children currently in foster care, birth parents, and foster parents.
Position Overview
- Develop Parent/Agency Agreements, and timely completion of service plans
- Attend court hearings with the ability to testify
- Provide referrals to external services
- Maintain consistent contact with the child’s providers
- Provide supportive casework services to birth parents
- Complete relative and birth family home assessment for potential placement of children
- Attend any meetings with service providers, those of the child welfare team, and other interested parties to coordinate service delivery for the child.
- Advocate on behalf of the child to ensure all services are provided in an ethical, timely manner and intended to meet treatment goals.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in human services with experience in child welfare required.
- A working knowledge of Child Welfare, DHHS policies, and State of Michigan laws regarding foster care required.
- Familiarity with the Children’s Foster Care Manual of Michigan and the associated policies and procedures.
- Cultural sensitivity for work with children and families of diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of the impact of physical and sexual abuse, neglect, and other forms of trauma on children. Have a working understanding of the role of attachment, separation, grief and loss in child well-being.
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.
- Reliable transportation and a valid Michigan driver’s license are required as this position is required to travel frequently up to 100 miles from the Main Office in Ann Arbor.
- Some evening work may be required.
- Shared rotating on-call availability among Child Welfare staff to manage 24/7 crisis. Rotation is monthly.
- All Child Welfare staff are required to participate in a designated-on call week. A $50.00 compensation fee is provided for this week. Flexibility in your weekly schedule is required to ensure proper coverage Monday – Friday at the Packard office.
