Job Summary
You will be working on software that supports air navigation and air traffic management services. You will primarily work developing and maintaining backend microservices in an object orientated language like Java to support our in-house Enterprise Service Bus. Microservices will be deployed to our Container Orchestration Platform based on Kubernetes. You will be expected to work with standard programming tools such as version control and deployment software, follow industry best practices, write tests for the code you write, and follow all applicable coding guidelines.

Your duties will include designing and architecting solutions for both internal and external systems, taking part in daily scrums, writing and developing modules for existing applications, writing code and tests for code, and taking part in code review sessions.

Key Accountabilities:

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend microservices and APIs using Java or other object-orientated languages.
- Design and develop cloud-native backend services and messaging solutions supporting NAV CANADA's Service-Oriented and SWIM (System Wide Information Management) information exchange platforms.
- Create unit tests for code written by yourself and other developers and participate in certification activities.
- Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure, networking, storage, and application deployment issues.
- Develop, maintain, and review Helm charts used to deploy and manage applications.
- Contribute innovative new ideas to continue to shape the product.

Job Requirements

Education:

- Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation from a recognized university or college with a degree or certification in Computer Science or Software Engineering or an acceptable combination of education, related experience, and training.

Experience:

- A minimum of three (3) years of experience with Java development.
- Experience with Java frameworks such as Spring-Boot and toolchains (Maven, Gradle, etc.)
- Experience with containerization and Kubernetes.
- Experience using Linux and Shell Scripting.

Knowledge:

- Familiarity with Pub/Sub architectures.
- Familiarity with microservices architecture.
- Familiarity with CI/CD.
- Familiarity with other object orientation languages.
- Knowledge of databases including PostgreSQL
- Knowledge of debugging, profiling and optimizing microservices.

Abilities:

- Advanced analytical skills to investigate and analyze software problems to develop, test and implement modifications.
- Strong troubleshooting skills to assess, repair, mitigate and find the root cause.
- Technical design and drafting skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team using Agile software development methodologies.
- Strong communication skills and technical writing skills.
