Country Head - Denmark
About the role
As Country Head, you will be responsible for the overall leadership, governance, financial performance, regulatory oversight, and market presence of the business within the jurisdiction. Acting as the most senior leader locally, you will play a critical role in driving business performance, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and statutory requirements, enhancing the Apex brand, and fostering a high-performing and engaged workforce.
The role requires close collaboration with global business leaders and support functions, with responsibility for aligning local operations to the wider Group strategy while ensuring sustainable growth, strong stakeholder relationships, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Performance Management
- Is the budget owner for the location.
- Contributes to budget construction and development.
- Performs plan reviews independently via Prophix on a day-to-day basis and collaboratively with FP&A on a monthly basis.
- Actively manages revenue, transfer pricing, working capital and cost management in conjunction with relevant departments, ensuring all budget process deadlines are met.
- Monitors and helps manage the full P&L including Revenue, Compensation, G&A and BTL.
- Provides feedback, submissions and reporting to relevant Regional Heads and Group Management where applicable.
- Focuses on and ensures cost efficiencies.
- Supports vendor relationship management to ensure best pricing.
- Understands strategic initiatives and actively manages such initiatives with leadership and stakeholders.
Market Presence and Brand Leadership
- Maintains awareness of market and brand perception through participation in industry events and by developing strong relationships across key industry stakeholders.
- Listens to feedback and develops plans to improve customer perception.
- Helps raise brand awareness locally.
- Promotes Apex Group internally and externally.
- Participates in recruiting, industry and media events.
- Actively uses social media to promote Apex Group and the local office.
Local Leadership
- Ensures effective communication across the jurisdiction for the benefit of all employees, including local and global events, news and announcements.
- Maintains responsibility for employee engagement, loyalty and understanding of Group strategy within the location.
- Maintains regular interaction with all departments represented in the country.
- Provides leadership and oversight across local support functions and business departments through strong stakeholder engagement and governance.
Regulatory, Governance and Risk Management
- Ensures statutory compliance of the local entity.
- Oversees and coordinates all communications with regulators.
- Develops proactive relationships with regulatory authorities where possible.
- Acts as an authorised signatory for the entity, reviewing and approving payments, vendor agreements, employment agreements, service agreements, financial statements and other key documentation in line with statutory and Apex Group procedures.
- Oversees cash management and funding requirements.
- Maintains a sustainable and efficient organisational structure, identifying gaps and implementing solutions where required.
- Ensures Group goals for the entity are achieved and provides reporting as required.
- Monitors staff efficiency and cost management.
- Ensures Group transfer pricing policies are implemented effectively.
- Proactively identifies risks and issues that may impact the entity or wider Group and takes appropriate action.
- Liaises with finance teams to ensure all statutory filings are completed accurately and on time.
- Ensures changes in statutory requirements are identified, communicated and implemented promptly.
- Supports local and Group audit requirements.
- Prepares Country Head and Board reports and meeting minutes.
- Participates in Local Risk Committee meetings and reviews risk reports as required.
- Works closely with HR regarding employment legislation and labour law compliance.
- Maintains ultimate responsibility for compliance with all relevant local legal and regulatory obligations, working closely with HR, Facilities, Finance, Legal and external advisers.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
- Maintain strong working relationships across all departments, including Client Relationship Management (CRM), Product, Operations, Revenue and Support Functions.
- Partner closely with local and global stakeholders to support business performance, regulatory interactions, market reputation and effective local leadership.
- Provide oversight and leadership across all departments through established dotted-line reporting structures.
- Regularly meet with and assess local senior managers across all functions, regardless of reporting line.
- Maintain visibility of departmental performance and ensure leaders are meeting expectations and contributing to the overall business strategy.
- Foster collaboration and communication across departments to ensure alignment with local and Group objectives.
- Engage regularly with local and global Support Function leaders to stay informed of key developments, initiatives and Group strategy.
- Leverage insights from Support Functions to strengthen relationships with regulators, clients and external market stakeholders.
- Maintain sufficient visibility of Support Function activities to effectively evaluate country-level costs and financial performance.
- Ensure regular updates and engagement across all departments to support informed decision-making and business planning.
The Country Head Will:
- Meet regularly with the Local Leadership Team to review strategic priorities and initiatives.
- Meet with the Local Management Team at least monthly to promote communication and alignment across teams.
- Participate in Group leadership meetings as required.
- Engage proactively with global departmental leaders to drive collaboration and achieve strategic goals.
- Work closely with HR and department leaders to support employee performance, development, engagement and retention.
- Ensure effective stakeholder communication and engagement.
- Meet regularly with Facilities representatives to ensure smooth office operations and resolve operational challenges.
- Host Town Hall meetings as required by the Group.
- Maintain an open-door approach with employees and foster an inclusive and collaborative culture.
Experience, Qualifications & Candidate Profile
- Significant senior leadership experience within financial services or another regulated environment.
- Proven ability to lead multi-functional teams, manage senior stakeholders and drive business performance.
- Strong commercial, regulatory and governance knowledge, including experience managing budgets and P&L performance.
- Excellent leadership, communication and relationship management skills.
- Professional qualification and/or degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
- A credible, hands-on leader who can balance strategic direction with operational execution in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
