About this role

Description

The Senior Finance Manager, Inventory Quality sits within North America Customer Fulfillment (CF) Finance and owns financial controllership across two high-exposure domains: Defect Cost Controllership and Inventory Quality. This dual-domain scope each with its own risk profile, methodology, audit standard, and stakeholder set defines the role’s structural complexity. The role partners directly with VP-level operations finance stakeholders, and cross-functional leaders across Operations, Supply Chain, Accounting, and Tech, making it the connective tissue between operational execution and financial accountability at the most senior level of NACF.

The Senior Finance Manager owns Defect Cost Controllership across NA, the single source of truth for $3+B in direct defect costs spanning Damages, Concessions, and unsellable inventory. The function provides Operations and Finance leaders with the cost attribution and P&L mapping required to set reduction targets, assess workstream performance, and commit to operating plans. The complexity is threefold: (1) scope spans the full defect cost chain from site-level operational defects through Liquidations account treatment across cost types with no pre-existing standardized financial framework; (2) the function must maintain 100% NA site coverage across a continuously expanding network without gaps in controllership or reporting continuity; and (3) defect cost sits at the intersection of Operations, Accounting, and E2E Supply Chain, requiring this role to ensure financial data is simultaneously actionable for operations leadership, audit-ready for finance, and consistent enough to anchor the kingpin commitments that flow into quarterly and annual operating plans.

This role owns Inventory Quality Finance with controllership accountability across warehouse damages, inventory adjustments, removals and returns, and SOX compliance for global inventory. The function governs approximately $3-4B in inventory adjustments annually, a cost base where accounting treatment gaps carry direct SOX exposure. The role governs inventory controllership at three distinct levels simultaneously: reserve calculation methodology (replacing intuition-based approaches with data-driven models), Inventory Roll-Forward account ownership (serving as the primary coordination point with Accounting), and SOX controllership framework design for global inventory.

The Senior Finance Manager leads and develops a high-performing organization of finance professionals. The role is accountable for organizational design, succession planning, leadership development, and maintaining Amazon’s talent and hiring bar while building scalable capabilities in analytics, business partnership, and operational finance. This includes setting the professional standard for the team, coaching leaders at every level, and ensuring the organization can absorb new controllership domains without degrading quality or coverage.
