About this role

System Test Engineer Job Description This role focuses on supporting the development, testing, and deployment of a next-generation integrated rail operations platform. It is ideal for an early-career engineer who wants immediate exposure to real-world projects and a solid foundation in systems engineering, verification and validation (V&V), application testing, and technical documentation. You will start by executing tests, following detailed procedures, documenting results, troubleshooting issues, and preparing reports in both lab and project environments. As you gain domain knowledge and confidence, you will grow into a broader application engineering role, including deployment, configuration, and test/commissioning for customer-specific implementations. The position suits someone who is curious, adaptable, collaborative, and eager to learn in a team-oriented engineering environment, with strong communication skills, disciplined documentation habits, and a continuous improvement mindset. Responsibilities

- Support the testing, integration, and deployment of control center and rail operations software applications.
- Execute Verification and Validation (V&V) activities in accordance with defined test procedures, engineering standards, and project requirements.
- Follow structured test steps, document results clearly, and generate accurate test reports and supporting deliverables.
- Assist with troubleshooting system, application, and integration issues in both lab and project environments.
- Support the development, validation, and maintenance of application configurations and system parameters tailored to customer requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers across software, systems, network, telecom, and application teams to help ensure successful project execution.
- Analyze requirements, specifications, and engineering documentation to understand expected behavior and verify system performance.
- Participate in root cause analysis and defect tracking, helping identify and communicate issues early in the lifecycle.
- Help maintain project documentation, interface information, test records, and technical artifacts throughout the system lifecycle.
- Identify and propose opportunities to improve test efficiency, automation, reporting, and repeatability.
- Progress over time into a broader role supporting deployment, configuration, commissioning, and customer-specific application engineering.
- Learn the product, system architecture, and engineering workflow during the first 612 months.
- Support formal test execution and reporting in a lab environment.
- Validate system functionality and verify expected behavior after configuration changes.
- Assist with troubleshooting communication and integration issues across software and hardware interfaces.
- Contribute to improving test processes, automation, and documentation quality.
- Build readiness to support deployment and commissioning activities as experience grows.

Essential Skills

- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 03 years of experience in engineering, systems, software, test, validation, integration, or a related technical environment, or strong internship, co-op, or academic project experience aligned to systems engineering or testing.
- Understanding of the systems engineering V-model and how requirements, integration, testing, and V&V fit across the lifecycle.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures, execute tests methodically, and document results with a high level of accuracy.
- Comfort working with engineering documentation such as requirements, test procedures, interface definitions, schematics, or architecture diagrams.
- Experience or exposure to test engineering and software testing, including validation, test procedures, test plans, and test development.
- Familiarity with requirements-based testing, system integration, or V&V gained through school, internships, or industry experience.
- Exposure to Python for software test engineering or scripting.

NICE TO HAVE Skills & Qualifications

- Exposure to SCADA systems.
- Experience with industrial or control system communications such as Modbus, TCP/IP, or serial communication.
- Experience troubleshooting networked systems, client/server communication, or PC-level connectivity issues.
- Familiarity with tools such as Wireshark, GDB, or other debugging and diagnostic tools.
- Scripting or automation experience using Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
- Basic Windows and/or Linux system administration skills.
- Exposure to virtual machines, server builds, or virtualization concepts.
- Understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking fundamentals.
- Experience with PLC communication, signal monitoring, or control system data flows.
- Experience in application engineering, system integration, or deployment support in a lab or customer environment.
- Experience in rail, transportation, industrial automation, or other safety-critical industries.
- Interest in growing into application configuration, customer-specific system setup, deployment support, and test and commissioning activities.
- Motivation to develop broader systems integration responsibilities over time.

Work Environment The role operates primarily in a lab and project environment focused on a next-generation integrated rail operations platform. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams, including software, systems, network, telecom, and application engineers, in a collaborative and mentoring-focused culture where lead engineers support junior team members. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, with an onsite presence during the initial ramp-up period to facilitate training and knowledge transfer. Once fully trained, hybrid flexibility is available, allowing a mix of onsite and remote work as project needs permit. The environment emphasizes structured engineering processes, formal testing and documentation, and continuous improvement in test efficiency, automation, and reporting.
