About this role

This is only open to high school students nominated by PG County Schools or Anne Arundel County Schools. Eligible applicants are submitted by their school to NASA GSFC prior to application. STEM ARE is a collaboration between Goddard Space Flight Center and participating high schools to provide STEM-interested students the opportunity to learn and apply research protocols and processes related to Earth- and Space-systems science, Computer science, Engineering, and Technology to fulfill school curriculum requirements during the academic year. Students participating in the GSFC STEM Academic Research Experience Program as a part of their school curriculum are engaged with a mentor in an experiential learning environment that provides students with authentic NASA STEM research experiences. Applicants must be sponsored by their school before applying for a STEM ARE. The expected onsite start date for the 2026-2027 session for selected applicants is January 2027. The session end date is May 2027. Applicants will be engaged in online coursework with NASA GSFC during the proposal submission/selection/placement period through the 2026 Fall semester. STEM ARE is open to high school seniors who can commit to a minimum of three half-days on site/in person or comparable time at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and are enrolled in an academic course at their high school to receive credit for the duration of the STEM ARE.
Students interested in applying for a STEM ARE placement should upload a current transcript and resume. Recommendations are encouraged, but not required.
