About this role

Position Summary

Provides leadership and coordination of research and epidemiologic activities, produces analysis of health statistics, and prepares and disseminates health reports for the California Tribal Epidemiology Center (CTEC).

Essential Functions

- Leads the epidemiology staff, guiding activities on epidemiological projects.

- Develop project methodology and determine research design.

- Collects epidemiological electronic data files from Indian health programs and state health agencies.

- Stores and manages the collected data.

- Generates analysis plans.

- Performs analyses with statistical and spreadsheet programs; interprets analyses and writes analytical sections of study reports.

- Produces both lay and technical reports to present health data.

- Serves as a coordinator for one or more projects.

- Develop work scopes and schedules for special projects.

- Manages and writes complex contracts or grants independently.

- Designs and develops simple and complex grant budgets and justifications as needed.

- Serve as a professional consultant to various organizations and committees.

- Communicates with Indian health care providers and the Indian community about data and analytical issues.

- Ensures the accuracy and clarity of analytical information in the CTEC.

- Regular and predictable attendance.

- Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

- Maintain a valid, unrestricted drivers license and ability to be insurable under CRIHBs automobile insurance.

- Position may require occasional overnight travel within CRIHBs service area.

- Requires the ability to drive up to seven (7) hours a day.

Qualifications

Qualifications

CRIHB recognizes that an equivalent combination of education, training, and progressively responsible leadership experience may be considered. A high school diploma or equivalent is required for all applicants.

- Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a closely related field; and

- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience, including:

Three (3) years directly related to the program area (e.g., Epidemiology, Biostatistics, etc.)

- One (1) year of supervisory experience of at least three (3) employees preferred.

Applicants who do not possess a bachelor's degree (but meet the high school minimum requirement) must have at least nine (9) years of progressively responsible leadership experience demonstrating comparable scope and responsibility. This must include at least four (4) years involving multi-departmental or cross-agency oversight.

- Preferred Qualification

Master's degree in Epidemiology. Biostatistics, or a related field, is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Strong analytical and writing skills include the ability to produce a well-organized and informative extended narrative of analytical methods (providing a sample of written work).

- Experience with Tribal health systems or nonprofit organizations, preferred.

- Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced functions of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as Office 365 applications. Additionally, skilled in statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, and STATA, with the ability to conduct thorough research literature reviews.

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy and accountability.

- Demonstrated time management and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.

- Commitment to confidentiality, equity, and American Indian self-determination.

This position requires an awareness and a profound respect for American Indian/Alaska Native traditions, customs, and Economic contexts. It also requires the ability to work effectively with Tribal organizations and to demonstrate tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness, and sound judgment when handling sensitive matters.

Indian Preference

Preference in hiring is extended to qualified American Indians or Alaska Native applicants in accordance with CRIHB's Indian Preference policy, as provided under Title 25 U.S.C. 5307(b).
